Job summary

A community support organization is seeking a personal assistant in Newcastle upon Tyne to support a 7-year-old boy with special needs. Job Details

Hours: 18 hours per week (including weekends if required) school holidays only

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a personal assistant to assist a lovely 7‑year‑old little boy who has Cerebral Palsy, Global Development Delay, ASD and Epilepsy. He lives with his mum and her wife, has an older brother and cats, and enjoys spending weekends with his dad.

Oscar's Needs

Oscar is semi‑verbal. He can articulate his needs using single words and short sentences, hand gestures, noises, and can sing when he enjoys activities of his choice. He is tactile and enjoys pressure hugging when he chooses to.

He is a wheelchair user, wears splints to support mobility, and needs full support when walking to prevent falling.

Responsibilities
  • Accompany Oscar to venues or activities, including local parks, Tim Lamb Centre, Adventureland, and trampolining parks (quiet sessions may apply).
  • Monitor surrounding areas because Oscar is sensitive to loud noise in large areas.
  • Provide personal care in the form of toileting needs.
  • Support Oscar during public transport usage, including metros and buses.
  • Drive Oscar to activities if the holder is a car driver.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with children with special needs or neurological conditions.
  • Ability to drive and familiarity with public transport.
  • Understanding of care needs such as toileting and personal care.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with a child sensitive to noise.
Work Eligibility

At the time of starting their employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the U.K.
