Job description

Make a Real Difference Every Day

Unicare Complex Care Specialist Ltd is looking for compassionate, patient, and dedicated Complex Care Support Workers to provide high-quality 2:1 support for a young person with complex needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about person-centred care and confident in supporting an individual who requires close supervision, reassurance, and assistance both at home and in the community.

About the Role

The individual requires 2:1 support due to significant disabilities, complex communication needs, limited awareness of danger, and behaviours that may place herself or others at risk.

Working as part of a two-person support team, you will help maintain the individual's safety and wellbeing while promoting dignity, choice, and independence. The role includes providing close supervision due to Pica (the ingestion of non-food items), supporting emotional regulation, and responding calmly and appropriately during periods of distress.

The role may involve supporting behaviours of concern, including physical aggression, pinching, head-butting, hair pulling, emotional dysregulation, and occasional property damage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, person-centred 2:1 support at home and in the community.
  • Promote independence, wellbeing, and participation in daily activities.
  • Support emotional regulation and respond appropriately to behaviours of concern.
  • Follow care plans, risk assessments, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with families and professionals.
  • Support safe access to community activities, appointments, and public spaces.
About You

  • Passionate about supporting individuals to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, Care Assistant, or similar role.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and person-centred care principles.
  • Ability to work flexibly and reliably.
Desirable Experience
  • Supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Learning Disabilities, or Complex Needs.
  • Experience with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Challenging Behaviour, Pica, or Complex Communication Needs.
What We Offer
