Job description

At Nottingham City Council, we believe that children should have the opportunity to maintain safe, positive and meaningful relationships with the important people in their lives. Family Time plays a vital role in helping children maintain these connections, supporting assessments, informing care planning and helping achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families.

We are looking for compassionate, resilient and skilled Family Time Workers to join our Children and Families Service.

About the Role

As a Family Time Worker, you will support children and families through some of the most significant periods of their lives. You will facilitate and supervise family time sessions between children and their parents, siblings and other significant family members, ensuring that every session is safe, purposeful and centred on the needs of the child.

No two days are the same. One day you may be supporting a young child to reconnect with a parent, whilst the next you could be observing family interactions, contributing to assessments, or working alongside social workers to help inform future plans for a child.

Your observations and professional recordings will provide valuable evidence to support decision-making, assessments and court proceedings. Through your work, you will help identify strengths within families, recognise areas where support is needed and contribute to plans that help children achieve stability and permanence.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference to children’s lives by helping them maintain important relationships while ensuring their safety and wellbeing remain at the heart of everything we do.

What We Offer

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Make a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of children and families.
  • Be part of a dedicated and supportive Children and Families Service.
  • Develop specialist skills in family time, child development, trauma informed practice, attachment and safeguarding.
  • Work alongside experienced social workers and multi-agency professionals.
  • Access learning, development and career progression opportunities within Children’s Services.
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements where service delivery allows.
  • Join the Local Government Pension Scheme and access a range of employee wellbeing benefits.
About You

You will bring experience of working with children, young people and families and have a sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and child-centred practice.

You will be confident in building positive relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries, able to observe and record accurately, and capable of responding calmly to challenging situations.

Most importantly, you will share our commitment to improving outcomes for children and helping them achieve the best possible future.

Essential Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and best practice relating to children in need, children looked after and safeguarding.
  • Experience of recording observations and maintaining accurate records.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including outside standard office hours where necessary.
  • Ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English, in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.
