Job summary

A community support organization in Bolton is seeking a Family Support Worker to provide direct support to children and families. The role includes facilitating Family Time sessions and conducting home visits. Candidates should have a relevant Level 3 qualification and experience in child safeguarding. A full UK driving licence is required. This position offers flexibility with working hours and requires an Enhanced DBS Check.

Family Support Worker - Bolton Council

Location: Bolton

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Contract: Ongoing temporary position

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct work with children and families, supporting positive routines, boundaries, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Facilitate and supervise Family Time sessions, ensuring safe and meaningful contact between children and their families.
  • Support families subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, and court proceedings.
  • Conduct home visits, contribute to assessments, and work collaboratively with social workers to inform care planning.
  • Help families access community services, budgeting advice, and early help support.
  • Record and report interventions accurately and timely using agreed systems.
Requirements
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g. Health and Social Care, Childcare, Youth Work, Early Years, or similar).
  • Previous experience working with children and families, ideally within safeguarding, early help, or similar support settings.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
  • A good understanding of child development, safeguarding, and evidence-based family support interventions.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as you may need to travel across Bolton at short notice.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends to meet service needs.
