What You’ll be doing
Are you passionate about helping children, young people and families achieve positive outcomes? As a Family Support Worker, you’ll join our Family Help Service, supporting families across Luton through early intervention and practical, person-centred support.
You’ll work directly with children, young people and adults, helping families navigate challenges and build on their strengths. Working as part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, you’ll collaborate with social workers, health professionals, education services, housing teams and voluntary sector partners to provide coordinated support and make a real difference to families in our communities.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need the ability to build positive working relationships with families, children and young people, as well as professionals from different agencies. You’ll be confident in assessing needs with families, agreeing appropriate plans and targets, and producing clear and concise reports, particularly where children’s wellbeing and protection are involved.
We’re looking for someone who can organise their workload, use their own initiative and contribute to decision-making with appropriate guidance. You’ll also need an understanding of child development, the impact of deprivation, abuse and discrimination, and how these can affect children, families and service delivery.
A relevant qualification such as an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent is required, alongside relevant training or experience working with children and families. You’ll need to communicate confidently and effectively in spoken English, be able to travel across the Borough as part of the role, and work evenings and weekends when required.

Application Process
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
Applicants for this public-facing post will need to demonstrate the ability to converse, and provide effective help or advice, fluently in spoken English
On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
