We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Vale of Glamorganto assist with the appointment of a Family Support Workeron a4.5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary

The Family Support Worker is a key role within the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Families First TAF Service, providing direct, front-line support to children, young people, and their families/carers. The primary goal is to provide a consistent, high-quality service, aligning with Families First guidance and relevant national and local legislation. This role requires a dedicated and highly organised individual who can effectively manage a caseload, undertake assessments, and use motivational techniques to engage families. A core function of the role involves partnership working, including chairing multi-agency meetings, to ensure integrated and effective support plans are developed and implemented for vulnerable families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a direct service to children, young people, parents, and carers referred to the Families First TAF Service, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Undertake both assessments of need and assessments of risk to inform the development of effective, person-centred support plans.
  • Conduct direct work with children, young people, and their families/carers under the guidance of the Practitioner Manager.
  • Facilitate and chair TAF (Team Around the Family) multi-agency meetings and reviews to ensure support plans are collaboratively agreed upon, implemented, and monitored effectively.
  • Identify and elevate any safeguarding concerns immediately and in strict accordance with the Council’s established safeguarding policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, both electronically and on case files, for every child, young person, and family, adhering to Service policy.
Essentials
  • Substantial experience providing direct support or working with children, young people, and their families in a social care, education, health, or community setting.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate and detailed records and case file information, both in paper and electronic formats.
  • A clear understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures and the duty to report concerns.
  • Awareness of key legislation, guidance, and policy relevant to children's services and family support in Wales (e.g., Families First).
