Job summary

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a Family Intervention Worker to join our Family Intervention Service. The role combines supervising 'family time' sessions for children not living at home with delivering direct parenting and family support interventions in the community.

Part-time (22.2 hours per week) fixed-term for up to 1 year to cover maternity leave. You will work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, producing reports for child protection meetings and other multi-agency

Qualifications

  • Childcare/Health and social care or education qualification (e.g. NVQ3, NNEB)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise 'family time' sessions in the centre between families and children where children are no longer living in the family home
  • Work with families independently using a restorative approach and with professionals to plan and intervene
  • Carry out interventions to enhance parent/child relationships and prevent family breakdown
  • Work within families' homes providing direct one-to-one work with parents and children
  • Produce reports for child protection meetings, court hearings and other multi-agency meetings as required

Job Introduction

We are seeking a Family Intervention Worker to join our Family Intervention Service. This rewarding role combines supervising family time sessions for children who are no longer living at home with delivering direct parenting and family support interventions in the community.

This role is part time working 22.2 hours per week and will be fixed term for up to 1 Year to cover maternity leave.

About the Role

The role consists of two parts: one part of the role you will be supervising 'family time' sessions in the centre between families and their children where the children are no longer living in their family home.

Within these sessions you will work with families independently using a restorative approach and as part of a team with other professionals to contribute to the planning and intervention of a programme of work.

The interventions you will carry out with families within these family time sessions the aim is to enhance the parent/child relationship, prevent family breakdown and support the families to make changes.

The other part of the role will involve working independently within family's homes completing direct work with parents and children on a one-to-one basis.

For both parts of the role, you will represent children and families and produce reports for child protection meetings, court hearings and other multi-agency meetings as required.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a childcare, health and social care, education or equivalent qualification (e.g. NVQ3, NNEB).
  • Has experience working with children and families in social care, health, education or related settings.
  • Can build positive relationships while providing both support and challenge to families.
  • Has strong communication, observation and report-writing skills.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team in sometimes challenging situations.

Working Arrangements
