Job summary

Wokingham Borough Council is seeking two Family Help Practitioners to support children, young people and families with strengths-based interventions aimed at building resilience and reducing the need for ongoing statutory involvement.

You will work within the Family Help Team, carrying a varied caseload, performing whole-family assessments, coordinating Team Around the Family meetings, and partnering with schools, health services, and voluntary organisations to ensure children's voices are heard

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline or significant experience with children and families.
• Experience delivering direct interventions that improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, child development and children’s social care legislation.

We have a fantastic opportunity for two Family Help Practitioners to join us, who are passionate about helping families make sustainable, positive changes before challenges escalated.

As a Family Help Practitioner, you'll work directly with children, young people and their families, delivering strengths-based interventions that build resilience, improve outcomes and reduce the need for ongoing statutory involvement.

Working as part of the Family Help Team, you'll carry a varied caseload, undertake whole-family assessments, coordinate Team Around the Family meetings and build strong partnerships with schools, health services, voluntary organisations and wider family networks. You'll play a vital role in ensuring children's voices are heard, supporting positive parenting, and empowering families to achieve lasting change.

What you'll be doing:

• Delivering high-quality, strengths-based support and interventions to children, young people and families.
• Completing whole-family assessments and co-producing outcome-focused Family Help Plans.
• Acting as Lead Professional and coordinating Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings.
• Building effective partnerships with education, health, police and voluntary sector colleagues.
• Working creatively with children and young people to ensure their voices influence planning and decision-making.
• Delivering practical support, parenting interventions and evidence-informed approaches to improve family resilience.
• Supporting families experiencing challenges such as poverty, domestic abuse, mental health difficulties and substance misuse.
• Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and championing inclusive practice for all families.

What we're looking for:

• NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline or significant experience working with children and families.
• Experience delivering direct interventions that improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, child development, early intervention and children's social care legislation.
• Strong relationship-building, assessment, communication and report-writing skills.
• The ability to work independently, manage complex situations and engage effectively with a wide range of partners and families.
