Responsibilities

• Conduct regular checks of the plant and water systems.
• Maintain cooling towers and handle chemical replenishment.
• Perform general maintenance and DIY tasks.
• Ensure site trailers are roadworthy.
• Complete necessary Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs).
• Report problems affecting the water treatment plant to management.

Job description

A Staffordshire based food manufacturing company is looking to recruit a Facilities Technician / Engineer for their production facility in Lichfield. The primary focus will be on the water treatment plant, supporting infrastructure and grounds.

Role

• Manual handling and working at height.
• Managing plant operation to ensure full compliance.
• Detail‑oriented record keeping of daily testing.
• Driving licence required for operating a yard tractor (gritting grounds, manoeuvring trailers).

Shift Pattern

• Panama shift (rotating): Days / Afternoons (no nights).
• Days: 05:30 am – 04:00 pm.
• Afternoons: 12:00 pm – 10:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete regular checks of the plant and water systems – hourly, daily, weekly.
• Check cooling towers – sampling, chemical replenishment, proper escalation in case of failures.
• General maintenance and DIY tasks.
• Maintain site trailers to ensure roadworthy condition.
• Complete all necessary PPMs.
• Advise management of any problems affecting the water treatment plant immediately to minimise operational downtime.

Experience and Skills Required

• Related qualifications around water treatment and/or maintenance (preferred).
• Knowledge of a water treatment plant, ideally in a food production environment.
• Ability or confidence to operate a yard tractor and trailer unit.
• Observation and recording skills – high level of attention to detail.
• Legionella and Confined Space Awareness – highly desirable.
