As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the management and delivery of projects on Thames Water buildings. This includes structural projects (Lifecycle) and the delivery of facilities for staff (Welfare) across our large portfolio of buildings, including Listed buildings and those of operational importance.
You will manage a portfolio of projects ranging from approximately £30,000 to £2 million, from scoping the projects from scratch to completion, including reporting throughout and managing the handover. The role promotes a healthy work‑life balance, and you will be expected to travel across the Thames Valley and/or the London Region.
What you will be doing as a Facilities Project Manager
- Scope projects independently, liaising with Operational Specialists (our internal clients) to ensure the scope is fully evolved.
- Invite framework contractors to tender, manage the return, and review and award tenders.
- Ensure CDM compliance for all projects, acting as Client and managing Principal Designer and Contractor to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and in line with Thames Water and legal guidelines.
- Liaise with the Controller of Premises for any pre‑construction information, and check and appraise Contractors’ Construction Phase Plans, Health & Safety Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- Ensure the Contractor and their supply chain are inducted and aware of any relevant site hazards or Health & Safety issues.
- Deliver performance in key areas of health and safety, environment and quality, with a detailed and organised administration record.
- Liaise regularly with the Controller of Premises and manage any issues with Contractor performance, resources, programme or site issues.
- Forecast spending accurately, report to delivery managers and escale issues when necessary, following company governance procedures and working to improve them.
Location and Working Conditions
- Working out of the Ashford Common area of West London.
- Daily travel to multiple sites is required; a car allowance and a driving licence are provided.
- Working hours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
This role is internally known as a ‘Project Engineer’.
What you should bring to the role
Essential criteria
- Preferably a background in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Civil).
- Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders simultaneously, including internal colleagues, site employees and external contractors.
- Self‑motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and able to deliver high‑quality work using initiative.
- Experience in Construction or Engineering Project Management.
Additional skills and experiences that would be great to have
- Formal qualifications such as a BTEC/HND in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of Clean Water Processing and/or Wastewater treatment.
- Understanding of Health and Safety standards, particularly CDM.
- Additional training will be provided where needed.
