Job description
Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Domestic Services and Ward Catering teams at the Royal Gwent Hospital to support increased demand during the winter period.

Working Patterns

Domestic Assistant: 07:00–14:30 or 14:00–18:00, varying days including weekends (4 or 3 shifts per week).
Ward Catering Assistant: 07:30–15:30 or 17:00–20:00, varying days including weekends (4 or 3 shifts per week).

Responsibilities
  • Domestic Assistant:
    • Follow standard cleaning procedures in patient areas, wards, clinical spaces, and public areas to a high standard.
    • Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures.
    • Safely use cleaning equipment and materials.
    • Work as part of a team to maintain NHS cleanliness standards.
    • Report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
  • Ward Catering Assistant:
    • Assist in the preparation and delivery of patient food and beverage service for all meal and drink rounds.
    • Ensure meals are served correctly and in line with patients’ dietary requirements.
    • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in ward kitchen areas.
    • Record food temperatures and follow food safety procedures.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and ward staff.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Basic general education.
  • Literate and numerate.
  • Willingness to undertake future training as required.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or hospitality environment.
  • Manual handling capability and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal and customer care skills.
  • Proficient in Welsh desirable but not mandatory.
  • NVQ Level 2 or BIFM Level 2 preferred.
