ConvaTec Inc. is seeking a Maintenance & Facilities Engineer to oversee the upkeep of the Deeside plant and surrounding facilities in the UK.

The role involves scheduling repairs, coordinating renovations, and driving safety inspections while managing budgets and interacting with external contractors. You will supervise maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical, and support services, ensure compliance with GMP, QA/QC, and site standards, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives and

Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in mechanical engineering or apprentice trained with relevant experience.
  • Experience in maintenance and installation of a broad range of services and facilities within a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Ability to supervise external contractors and support Permit to Work system and other controls.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing services related to electrical maintenance, mechanics, hydraulics, carpentry and masonry; maintaining equipment and facilities.
  • Lead or participate in Facilities, Engineering and EHS activities and PM strategies and schedules.
  • Raise orders and check/approve invoices via SAP.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors performing maintenance activities ensuring compliance with regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Provide support to site-wide projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

Repair & Maintenance work is focused on maintenance of building and grounds of an organization, and the upkeep of equipment and supplies including:

  • Scheduling repairs, renovations projects, waste reduction improvements, and safety inspections. Plans, budgets, and schedules facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor, materials, and other related costs.
  • Negotiating with outside vendors/contractors for supplies, repairs, and capital purchases
  • Overseeing services related to electric maintenance, mechanics, hydraulics, carpentry and masonry, substituting, changing, cleaning, repairing and installing pieces, components and equipment
  • Ensuring operating requirements, building codes, and safety regulations are met. Responsible for repairs, adjustments, and ongoing maintenance of facilities. Performs electrical, painting, and/or carpentry repairs of fixtures and equipment. Responsible for the design, planning, construction, and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities. Conducts periodic inspections to determine maintenance work required. Maintains all equipment necessary to perform work.
  • Requires broad knowledge of operational procedures and tools obtained through extensive work experience and may require vocational or technical education. May require the following proficiency:
  • Works under limited supervision for routine situations. Provides assistance and training to lower level employees. Problems typically are not routine and require analysis to understand., Responsible for all shift-based activities.
  • Out of hours on-call and call out activities.
  • Provide a broad base of engineering skills for effective technical support and maintenance of the facility.
  • Ensure existing and new mechanical installations meet the site standards and specifications.
  • Maintain the Deeside plant i.e., boilers, AHU's, control valves, pumps, chillers, UPS, Substations.
  • Manage small to medium sized projects, associated tasks, and budgets.
  • Lead or participate in Facilities, Engineering and EHS activities and PM strategies and schedules.
  • Follow legal, corporate and site legislation and procedures.
  • Identify, justify, and manage facilities and process improvement projects across the site to improve the performance of facilities-based equipment and deliver cost savings.
  • Raise orders and check, approve appropriate invoices via SAP.
  • Understands principals of effective maintenance and is efficient at implementing the identified maintenance (PM's) to ensure compliance with engineering QA/QC, GMP, FDA, Change Control, EHS and FM standards.
  • Provide support to site wide projects.
  • Coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards., Broad base of engineering skills for effective technical support and maintenance of equipment/processes and can develop appropriate skills in others by effective leadership.
  • Ability to continuously improve own skill base through individual training, assessment and education programmers and can develop appropriate skills in others by effective leadership
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and develop appropriate solutions.

  • Supports the effective integration of new machinery/technology and products/materials into Technical Operations.

  • Ability to work to and set the highest standards in health and safety of self and colleagues. Capable of setting and maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping in all aspects of work.
  • Understanding of a range of engineering machines/processes functions within manufacturing.
  • Understanding and integration of customer needs to support business requirements. Experience in maintenance and installation of a broad range of services and facilities within a manufacturing / engineering environment.
  • Experience of, or capability to adapt to a multi-skilled, flexible way of working, with effective range of skills across mechanical, electrical, and other aspects.
  • Experience of working with, supervising, and taking responsibility for external contractors and other service providers. Ability to support the effective operation of a Permit to Work system and other procedures and controls in support of this.
  • Experience in working effectively within diverse, cross functional team relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical problems and develop appropriate solutions
  • Experience in developing successful new systems, practices, procedures within a Production/Maintenance Engineering technical operation
  • Ability to judge the technical complexity of a task/activity and match appropriate resource to undertake successful accomplishment of that task/project.
  • Experience of effective communication skills in verbal and written formats.
  • Continuous and on-going development of skills and experience.
  • Evidence of understanding and capability across mechanical, electrical and control functions, also basic building maintenance. Evidence of ability to communicate this knowledge to others.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of maintenance/technical support of diverse manufacturing processes. Thorough grasp of standards required to make this interface effective., A recognised qualification in mechanical engineering discipline or apprentice trained with relevant experience.
  • An understanding of clean room or controlled environment controls i.e., HVAC, Humidity, and pressure Cascades etc.
  • A working understanding of plant functions and maintenance.
  • PC skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, working towards MS Project and CAD.
  • Previous experience in installation, fault diagnosis, testing and inspection of electrical systems.
  • Demonstrate expertise in fault finding and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated Project & Time Management skills, including a track record of creating plans and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to balance multiple, competing priorities.
  • Experience completing site inductions, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and all site relevant permits
