Job summary

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety policies and standards are fulfilled.
• Lead day-to-day facilities management operations across sites.
• Manage a circa £1m budget and assist with annual budgets and monthly reports.
• Lead on building safety, audits and regulatory compliance (H&S, CDM, Fire, Legionella, LOLER, PUWER, PSSR).
• Act as Authorised/Appointed Person for critical safety areas (Confined Spaces, Legionella, Electrical).
• Oversee maintenance services and contractor management; manage inspections of plant/equipment.
• Drive facilities projects and refurbishments to meet business needs.
• Ensure CAFM/IWMS systems are aligned with service level requirements and compliance.
• Provide day-to-day leadership to the facilities team and drive performance and improvements.
• Prepare and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets and monthly asset condition reporting.
• Develop service and project specifications; lead tendering and contract implementations.

Role Description

The Facilities Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Clayton Engineering Limited's premises in Knighton. The purpose of the role is to provide specialist Facilities Management expertise in order that a safe, compliant working environment with appropriate facilities for staff, visitors and volunteers is provided at Claytons Engineering Limited.

Key Responsibilities

1.Ensure Health and Safety policies and standards are fulfilled. Work safely, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of yourself, direct reports, colleagues, customers, contractors and visitors.

2.Managing the day-to-day facilities management operations of the Claytons Engineering sites to ensure the highest possible standards are delivered.

3.Manage a delegated budget of approx. £1m and assist the Senior Facilities Manager with the preparation of annual budgets packages and complete monthly financial performance reports.

4.Lead on building safety and compliance, conduct audits, ensure systems and documentation meet statutory, regulatory, and company standards (e.g., H&S, CDM, Fire, Legionella, LOLER, PUWER, PSSR)

5.Fulfils the role of an Authorised/Appointed Person for critical safety areas such as Confined Spaces, Legionella, Electrical etc.

6.Manage a wide range of specialist Facilities services and contractors providing hard and soft services. Manages statutory inspections of specialist plant and equipment.

7.Manage technical Facilities projects, buildings, plant and equipment alterations/refurbishments to meet with occupational demands of the business.

8.Ensure the Facilities operating software systems (CAFM/IWMS) are managed effectively and align with the business service level requirements and regulatory compliance standards.

9.Provide effective day-to-day leadership and management of the Facilities team, ensuring clear objectives, performance expectations that drive high standards and continuous improvement.

10.Prepare and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets and be accountable for monthly reporting of budget and asset condition.

11.Develop detailed service and project specifications, lead tendering processes, and negotiate and implement contracts to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service delivery.

12.Specify, coordinate, and oversee both planned and reactive maintenance works, ensuring timely, cost-effective delivery and adherence to quality and safety standards.

13.Conduct regular health and safety inspections and audits across the estate, maintain a schedule of required actions, and proactively manage the implementation of improvements to ensure ongoing compliance and risk reduction.

14.Manage the Permit to Work procedure and issue permits when required.

15.Manage maintenance activities, operational issues, incidents and emergencies outside normal working hours when required.

16.To become involved in other ad hoc tasks as required.

Qualifications required

• Demonstrable, significant experience in Facilities Management.
• HND or equivalent qualification in Building Services Engineering (electrical/mechanical) or Building Surveying or equivalent experience.
• Managing technical building services and manufacturing process projects.
• CAFM/IWMS experience.
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
• Proficient operator of Microsoft Office systems
• Project management qualification such as APM or equivalent experience.
