Overview
We have 1 vacancy available: 37.5 hours per week, on a 4 week rota pattern, working alternate weekends. Shift times vary 08:00-16:00 or 10:30-18:30. The role of Domestic Cleaning Assistant is vital to ensure we deliver clean, safe, high quality care to our service users, visitors and staff. Flexible working requests will be considered for all roles.
To undertake cleaning duties in accordance with cleaning schedules and instructions. Maintain cleaning standards on ward / unit to a high standard in line with National Standards. Support the auditing process of Clean Hospitals. Ensure all domestic equipment is clean and properly stored when not in use and report defects to supervisor for repairs. Responsible for ensuring that all products and chemicals are locked away and used in line with COSHH guidelines. Stock control - report any shortfalls of domestic products to supervisor. Responsible for ensuring personal alarms are tested prior to start of shift. To work as members of a team, carrying out facilities tasks as allocated and prioritised. Facilities tasks may include all or a combination of the following: general cleaning duties, barrier cleans, waste management, cleaning of sanitary ware, kitchen appliances, blinds, glass, etc.

Responsibilities
- Work as a domestic completing daily cleaning duties to a high standard to provide a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff. Ensure all cleaning activity is carried out in line with Infection Control, COSHH and Health & Safety procedures.
- Maintain cleaning standards on ward / unit to a high standard in line with National Standards.
- Support the auditing process of Clean Hospitals.
- Ensure all domestic equipment is clean and properly stored when not in use and report defects to supervisor for repairs.

- Stock control – report any shortfalls of domestic products to supervisor.

Facilities tasks may include all or a combination of: General cleaning duties; Floor maintenance (dry / wet mopping, scrubbing and buffing, vacuuming, strip & re-seals); Spray cleaning; High/low dusting; Damp & dry dusting; Spot cleaning; Shampoo of carpets; Wiping down furniture and general fitments to high cleanliness standards; Barrier cleans in line with Infection Control Policies; Efficient removal of domestic waste; Clearing of litter/debris/glass; Removal of graffiti; Wiping down/dusting blinds; Cleaning of sanitary ware; Cleaning of ward/unit kitchen appliances; Salting of dishwashers; Wall cleaning/paintwork/tiles/doors below 6ft; Removal of smears from internal glass; Replenishment of hand wash, paper towels, toilet tissue, coloured plastic bags and soap; Support for curtain/shower curtain changes; Key handling, locking and unlocking of premises; Table setting; Full clearing of dining room after meals; Washing up and wiping of spillages on food conveyors.
- To assist colleagues and line manager by carrying out tasks assigned to the team, supporting the minimisation of overtime and sickness costs and minimising waste of resources.
- To comply with all relevant policies and procedures (including health & safety, security, manual handling) and adhere to site-specific security procedures.
- To take responsibility for completing duties safely and efficiently, maintaining regular contact with the line manager.
- To stand in for other Domestic Assistants as required and liaise with all relevant parties in a friendly and helpful way to achieve duties and responsibilities.
- Internal/External Contacts: communicate with staff across disciplines, visitors, maintenance and other contractors; service users (patients) including those with severe mental health problems.
- To work unsupervised and use own initiative in line with service requirements. To ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation and data entry on information systems.
- Ward / Unit-specific duties as directed and any other domestic duties designated by Supervisor / Manager / Ward Manager. Provide flexible cover across all areas within designated hours.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospital environment or a similar setting would be preferable, but training will be supplied.
