Job summary

Moderna in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced facilities engineering leader to shape the long‑term reliability and compliance of R&D Clinical Laboratory facilities. • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; master’s preferred.
• 8+ years of facilities/engineering experience in biotech/pharma with GMP.

• Experience with CMMS and enterprise information systems.

Step into a pivotal engineering leadership role where you will shape the long‑term reliability, performance, and compliance of Moderna's R&D Clinical Laboratory facilities. As the technical authority for facility and utility operations, you will help transition a newly established site into a high‑performing operational environment while driving maintenance excellence, engineering innovation, and continuous improvement. Working across global engineering teams and local partners, you will play a key role in supporting cutting‑edge science and will have opportunities to work alongside rapidly evolving digital and Generative AI‑enabled engineering tools that continue to transform maintenance, asset management, and operational decision‑making.

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Provide technical leadership and oversight of building infrastructure, utilities, and facility systems to ensure reliable delivery of services that meet operational requirements.
• Ensure all engineering systems and services remain compliant with environmental, health, safety, statutory, and GxP regulatory requirements.
• Manage the technical performance of engineering service partners by setting expectations, monitoring delivery, identifying capability gaps, supporting training, and driving continuous performance improvements.
• Lead the execution of maintenance and engineering activities across the site using a combination of internal teams and external service providers.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy using maintenance excellence principles, including maintenance plans, critical spare parts strategies, and asset reliability improvements.
• Partner with Global Maintenance and Engineering teams to implement maintenance strategies and develop robust maintenance job plans for all applicable systems.
• Lead engineering and facility improvement initiatives while ensuring quality, safety, schedule, and budget objectives are consistently achieved.
• Support major engineering initiatives including site shutdowns, capital projects, and engineering business process improvements.
• Build strong relationships with facility stakeholders by maintaining clear communication, understanding operational needs, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen facility performance and support Moderna's continued growth.
• Foster an inspection‑ready culture by ensuring compliance activities, documentation, and regulatory requirements are completed accurately and on time.

Here’s What You’ll Bring To The Table

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (i.e. Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering) required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of Facilities and/or Engineering experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries required. GMP facility experience required.
• Excellent negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are required. Expected to be able to present work to peers and cross‑functional managers and influence leadership decisions. Technical writing skills required.
• Must be able use his/her technical background to investigate issues using a structured problem‑solving approach to determine true root cause and develop effective corrective and preventative actions. Must be able to be able to find true root cause and path forward for complex problems. Demonstrates strategic enterprise thinking, finding innovative ways to deliver results and build trust.
• Must possess outstanding communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work with enterprise‑wide information systems for effective stakeholder management and communication.
• Experience utilizing a CMMS for the planning and execution of a maintenance program. Maximo‑specific experience preferred.
• Ability to interact well with other groups and must be able to take ownership of and follow through on assignments. Must be able to drive results on multiple complex assignments simultaneously with minimal required direction from his/her supervisor.
• Experience with Honeywell (Niagara) and Siemens (Desigo) systems preferred.
• Ability to represent Moderna’s interests, objectives, and policies in a professional and responsible manner.
