Job summary

A higher education provider is seeking a Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer to maintain and refurbish facilities across their UK campuses. Responsibilities include performing preventative and reactive maintenance, monitoring building conditions, and assisting with refurbishment projects. The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications and experience in building maintenance along with a proactive approach to work. Qualifications

  • Must have 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification and City & Guilds Level 2 and/or 3 in Electrical Installations.
  • Experience in building maintenance including M&E systems is required.
  • Candidates should demonstrate manual skills and knowledge of refurbishment techniques.
  • COSHH awareness and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, install, and refurbish fabric and equipment across GBS UK estates.
  • Monitor building conditions and undertake repairs and renovations.
  • Assist in planning refurbishment projects.
  • Refurbishment and fit-out projects support.
  • Travel to other campuses as required.
  • Work a 40-hour week across campus hours, with occasional out-of-hours work.

Skills

Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer

The Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer will maintain, install, and refurbish fabric and the equipment across the GBS UK estates portfolio. They will monitor the condition of GBS buildings, undertake repairs and renovations, and assist Estates and Facilities in the planning of refurbishment projects. This role may require travel to other GBS UK campuses and demands flexible working to accommodate business operations. They will work a 40‑hour week, covering campus operating hours from Monday to Sunday, 7:00 am to 9:30 pm, with occasional out‑of‑hours work as required to minimise disruption and ensure the smooth completion of maintenance tasks.

Experience And Skills Required
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
  • City & Guilds Level 2 and/or Level 3 in Electrical Installations, or equivalent NVQ, or demonstrable experience to the same standard.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance including M&E systems.
  • Manual skills, knowledge of refurbishment techniques.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work with a “can do” attitude.
  • Familiarity with COSHH requirements for the equipment and chemicals being used.
  • Interpersonal skill and ability to work on your own but also as part of the facilities wider team.
  • Full, Clean Driving License
