Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic person to join our busy friendly Infection Prevention and Control team, working as a face fit tester, fitting FFP3 face masks to trust staff.
The successful candidate will join a small supportive face fit testing service that is based within the County wide Infection and Prevention Control Team at Worcestershire Hospitals Acute Trust. The role will involve working across the three main trust sites.

This role is essential to enable clinical staff to work safely when caring for patients with respiratory infections.

Main Duties

The post holder will work closely with the Infection Prevention & Control Team and will ensure that staff are individually face fitted to masks providing respiratory protection against harmful pathogens.

Key Duties
  • Ensure Personal Protective Equipment is worn and used according to Trust policy.
  • Conduct face fit tests on staff required to wear FFP3 masks.
  • Explain the face fit testing process and provide clear instructions to staff.
  • Assist in fitting masks to ensure a good seal before testing.
  • Direct staff through the face fit exercises.
  • Record the result of any face fit test.
  • Explain to staff which mask they have passed or advise on alternatives if no fit is achieved.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of face masks and consumables.
  • Clean and maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidance.
  • Assist the Fit Test Coordinator in implementing and evaluating the Face Fit Test strategy.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the Fit Test Coordinator and staff.
  • Plan and organise workload with IPC support officers.
  • Transport equipment to various sites and wards.

Job Purpose

Fit testing is a method for checking that a specific model and size of FFP3 mask matches the wearer’s facial features and seals adequately to the face. It will also help to identify unsuitable masks which should not be used.

  • Basic standard of education including Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Proficient keyboard skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
Qualifications
  • Basic standard of education including Maths and English (or equivalent) to Basic Skills Agency Version 1.
  • GCSEs preferably Maths and English (or equivalent).
Experience
  • Previous experience working in a team.
  • Knowledge of hospital systems or data.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Experience of undertaking face fit tests.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Ability to work accurately and methodically to complete the tests and document the results.
  • Pleasant telephone manner.
  • Flexible approach to duties, capable of taking on new tasks.
  • Knowledge of COSSH and decontamination processes (desirable).
Contract Details

Contract: Permanent
Hours: 24hrs per week
Working pattern: Part‑time, Flexible working
Contractual band: Band 3
Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 a year
