Job summary

Arup offers a six-week internship where you work with façade engineering professionals on real projects for new-build and refurbishment across the UK and internationally. You’ll be part of multidisciplinary design teams delivering safe, sustainable and high-performing building envelopes that respond to architectural, environmental and operational requirements.

Qualifications

• Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Structural/Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; CAD/3D tools such as AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp desirable.

The opportunity

On your six-week internship, you’ll work alongside specialist façade engineering professionals on real life, meaningful projects for both new-build and refurbishment projects across the UK and internationally. Working as part of multidisciplinary design teams, we help clients deliver safe, sustainable and high-performing building envelopes that respond to architectural, environmental and operational requirements.

Our work spans façade concept design, technical specification, performance analysis, procurement support, heritage and conservation projects, façade surveys and diagnostics, and construction-stage services. We have experience across commercial, residential, cultural, education and transport sectors, delivering a wide range of façade systems including curtain walling, rainscreen cladding, stone façades, glazing systems, bespoke envelopes and façade refurbishment schemes. The team places a strong emphasis on sustainability, whole-life carbon reduction, building safety and the long-term performance of building envelopes.

You will be working within a team in a multi-disciplinary office.

• You will collaborate with leading architectural practices, clients, contractors and supply chain for projects across a wide range of markets.
• You’ll also undertake technical design and analysis; drawing, preparing documents and presenting ideas; and may visit factories and sites.

Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

• Working towards a bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic discipline, such as Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Skills and experience: interested in communicating and presenting ideas, report writing, and proficient in Microsoft Office. AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, finite element analysis, Grasshopper, and hand sketching are desirable.
