Job summary

Methods is seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Engineer to design, install, configure and support Fabric solutions for public and private sector clients. You will help deliver modern data platforms, analytics services and integrated data solutions using Fabric, Power BI, OneLake and Synapse.

The role involves building data pipelines, semantic models and secure, governed Fabric environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure practical and deliverable outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing, installing, configuring or supporting Microsoft Fabric solutions.
  • Strong understanding of Fabric capabilities including OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, and Power BI.
  • Experience building data pipelines and data models using Microsoft data technologies.
  • Good knowledge of Power BI, semantic modelling, DAX and reporting best practice.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Microsoft Fabric environments aligned to customer data strategies and technical requirements.
  • Develop and optimise data pipelines, semantic models and reporting for Power BI.
  • Configure security, governance and operational resilience across Fabric solutions.

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and technically capable Microsoft Fabric Engineers to design, install, configure and support Microsoft Fabric solutions for our clients across public and private sector environments.

This role will support the delivery of modern data platforms, analytics services and integrated data solutions, helping customers make better use of their data through Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, OneLake, Data Factory, Synapse Data Engineering, Data Warehousing and Real-Time Intelligence capabilities.

The Microsoft Fabric Engineer carries out the following activities:

1. Microsoft Fabric Design & Implementation
  • Design Microsoft Fabric solutions that align to customer data strategies, business outcomes and technical requirements.
  • Install, configure and set up Microsoft Fabric environments, including workspaces, capacities, security models and tenant-level settings.
  • Configure OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Dataflows, Pipelines, Notebooks and semantic models to support scalable data ingestion, transformation and reporting.
  • Develop robust data engineering patterns using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory, Data Engineering and Data Warehouse capabilities.
  • Support the migration of existing data workloads from legacy platforms, Azure Synapse, SQL Server, Power BI or other analytics environments into Microsoft Fabric.
  • Apply best practice across performance, security, governance, cost control and operational resilience.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, including solution designs, configuration guides, deployment plans and support handover materials.
  • Work closely with architects, data engineers, analysts and customer stakeholders to ensure Fabric solutions are practical, secure and deliverable.
2. Data Engineering, Integration & Analytics
  • Build and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform and publish data from a range of structured and unstructured sources.
  • Develop Lakehouse and Warehouse solutions that support analytics, reporting, operational insight and downstream data consumption.
  • Create and optimise semantic models to support Power BI reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Configure data refresh, scheduling, monitoring and alerting processes to support reliable production services.
  • Support integration with Azure services, Microsoft Purview, Power Platform, APIs, databases and third-party applications.
  • Optimise queries, workloads, storage structures and data models to improve performance and reduce cost.
  • Ensure solutions are designed with appropriate data quality, lineage, access control and governance controls.
3. Platform Configuration, Security & Governance
  • Configure Microsoft Fabric workspaces, permissions, deployment pipelines, capacity settings and environment controls.
  • Implement role-based access control, sensitivity labelling, data protection and secure-by-design configuration patterns.
  • Support governance and catalogue integration, including alignment with Microsoft Purview where required.
  • Establish monitoring, logging and operational support processes for Fabric workloads.
  • Troubleshoot platform, pipeline, data modelling, refresh, connectivity and performance issues.
  • Support testing, release management and transition into live service.
  • Contribute to technical assurance reviews, identifying risks, dependencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain awareness of Microsoft Fabric product updates, licensing changes and emerging best practice.
4. Collaboration & Capability Development
  • Work collaboratively with delivery teams, architects, business analysts and customer stakeholders to translate requirements into working Fabric solutions.
  • Support pre-sales and discovery activity by providing technical input, estimates and solution options where required.
  • Contribute to reusable Methods assets, accelerators, templates and delivery standards for Microsoft Fabric.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and support the development of Methods' wider data, analytics and Microsoft capability.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience designing, installing, configuring or supporting Microsoft Fabric solutions.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Fabric capabilities, including OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Data Engineering, Data Science, Real-Time Intelligence and Power BI.
  • Experience building data pipelines, data models, Lakehouse or Warehouse solutions using Microsoft data technologies.
  • Good knowledge of Power BI, semantic modelling, DAX and reporting best practice.
  • Experience with Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Data Lake Storage or Databricks would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of data governance, security, access control, data quality and data lifecycle management.
  • Ability to troubleshoot data platform, refresh, integration, performance and configuration issues.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams and producing clear technical documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative and able to work across multiple client environments and delivery priorities.
Professional Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent, would be advantageous
  • Agile Practitioner, Scrum Master, PRINCE2, or equivalent delivery qualification
