Site-Based Fabric Engineer - Oracle Shopping Centre, Reading

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Site-Based Fabric Engineer to provide comprehensive building maintenance and engineering services at Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading. This role requires a hands-on professional responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of all building fabric elements to ensure optimal facility performance and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses routine inspections and preventive maintenance of the building envelope including roofing, external walls, windows, and doors. You will perform repairs to internal and external fabric elements such as plastering, painting, tiling, and general building maintenance, while maintaining flooring systems throughout common areas, retail units, and back-of-house facilities. The position involves executing planned preventive maintenance schedules, responding to reactive maintenance requests, and monitoring building management systems related to fabric performance.

You will coordinate with MEP engineers on integrated building systems, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintain accurate maintenance records. The role requires liaising with retail tenants regarding fabric-related maintenance issues, coordinating with external contractors, and working collaboratively with the broader facilities management team while providing technical guidance on fabric-related improvements.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant trade qualification in building maintenance, construction, or related field
• Minimum 3-5 years experience in commercial building maintenance, preferably retail environments
• Strong knowledge of building fabric systems, materials, and repair techniques
• Understanding of health and safety regulations including working at height and confined spaces
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently

Desirable Qualifications

• CSCS card or equivalent safety certification
• Experience with shopping centre or large commercial building operations
• Basic knowledge of building management systems
• Full UK driving license

Working Conditions

This is a site-based role at Oracle Shopping Centre with standard working hours and potential for emergency call-outs. The physical role requires manual handling, working at height, and use of tools and equipment. Uniform and PPE are provided.
