Job summary

DFS is seeking a Fabric Cutter at our Somercotes site to operate cutting machines and hand-cutting equipment in line with product specifications. You will prepare fabric components, support production, and help maintain quality and safety standards while advancing your skills within a supportive team.

The role offers rotating morning/afternoon shifts, a generous holiday schedule, and full-time employment with earnings potential through piecework after training.

Qualifications

• Industrial machinery operation including cutting equipment and hand tools.
• Pattern matching and alignment of fabrics across sections.
• Understanding fabric types and how they behave (nap, stretch).
• Ability to arrange pattern pieces to maximize material usage.
• Precision cutting of bespoke pieces and delicate fabrics.
• Inspect fabric for weaving flaws and dye lot variations.
• Routine maintenance of cutting equipment and blades.

Responsibilities

• Operate cutting machines and hand-cutting equipment to cut fabric components per specifications.
• Produce accurate, high-quality cut materials while adhering to quality standards.
• Move cut fabric to sorting area to maintain production flow.
• Build knowledge of product specs and manufacturing requirements.
• Handle customer orders with care, ensuring materials are protected and processed correctly.
• Report fabric quality issues or production concerns to supervisors promptly.
• Follow Health and Safety policies and company procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and organized factory environment; keep walkways clear.
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in training and development activities.
