A local government authority in Hamilton is looking for 3 accountants to join the Strategy Team. South Lanarkshire Council is looking for 3 accountants. These posts are based in the Strategy Team – one within Community and Enterprise Resources covering Waste Services and two within the Finance Strategy team, supporting capital and strategic council investments and the council's financial strategy.
You will report to the Finance Adviser for the effective delivery of the finance provision in accordance with the Council's statutory responsibilities, policies and procedures. Your responsibilities include providing quality advice and support to Council departments, forecasting, setting budgets, monitoring performance against budgets, preparing year‑end accounts, preparing financial returns, preparing committee reports and maintaining general financial stewardship of the Council's financial resources.
The successful candidate should have experience within a financial environment (ideally public sector) and evidence of technical job knowledge and expertise. You should demonstrate knowledge of the finance function within a specialist area and cross‑working within an organisation, and comply with professional codes of practice.
You will be required to challenge, support and improve existing business practices, report on their effectiveness, reliability and value for money, highlight risks and make recommendations for management. Involvement in project management with governance responsibilities and the ability to prepare and scrutinise financial reports, budgets, accounts and performance indicators is essential.
You must hold a Professional Accountancy qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body and/or demonstrate extensive experience in a financial management role to apply for this post. Candidates that do not provide evidence of this will not be progressed.
