Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist the EYFS team in delivering a high standard of care and education, ensuring excellent foundations for our pupils.

DUTIES:

A. Supporting the Children

  • Promote effective learning and high-quality care by:
  • Having high expectations of all children to enable them to reach their full potential
  • Promoting children’s speaking and listening skills
  • Scaffolding and encouraging learning in continuous provision, focus activities, and group times
  • Taking on the role of key person for a group of children
  • Motivating and inspiring children through developmentally appropriate and stimulating learning opportunities indoors and outdoors
  • Supporting children’s wellbeing and self-regulation skills
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles for all children
  • Understanding the Prime Areas of learning and child development
  • Writing observations and determining developmental next steps for children
  • Supporting the teaching team through planning meetings
  • Establishing and maintaining caring, nurturing relationships with all children
  • Supporting the development of a high-quality, stimulating learning environment
  • Understanding and adhering to the statutory EYFS Framework requirements
  • Supervising and supporting children during meal and snack times
  • Undertaking duties related to personal hygiene, intimate care, and children's welfare
  • Developing positive relationships with parents/carers and family members as appropriate
  • Respecting children and families, considering their social, cultural, linguistic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Using behaviour management strategies that contribute to a positive learning environment, in line with school policies

B. Supporting the Team

  • Working as part of a team to help children achieve their potential and liaising with other early years staff
  • Supporting the work of the EYFS team and EYFS Assistant Headteacher
  • Participating in planning meetings, sharing reflections, evaluating provision, and contributing ideas
  • Assisting in setting up equipment and resources daily
  • Contributing to assessments and recording children's progress, leading assessments when needed
  • Participating in evaluating activities, learning opportunities, and the environment
  • Providing regular feedback about children through observations
  • Attending progress meetings and reporting on individual children's progress
  • Working flexibly within the setting and assisting where needed

C. Supporting the School

  • Attending relevant training and courses
  • Understanding responsibilities regarding safeguarding and child protection; identifying concerns and following procedures
  • Adhering to all school policies and procedures
  • Reflecting on and improving professional practice
  • Maintaining confidentiality, child protection, health and safety, and data protection standards
  • Being an effective role model for children, staff, and the wider community
  • Supporting additional tasks as directed by your Line Manager, e.g., school trips, productions, new intake meetings
