Mitie Group plc. is hiring an External Waste Operative in Stafford to support cleaning and waste tasks on a part-time basis. The role involves external cleaning, waste management, jet washing, and maintaining pest prevention standards across the site.

You will work 20 hours weekly (7am–11am) at Weston Road, Stafford; PLC environment expects reliability, flexibility, and a proactive attitude to ensure SLA commitments are met and the site remains safe and presentable.

Responsibilities

• External Cleaning: carry out daily litter picking across site areas.
• Jet Washing: operate pressure washing on paved areas and walkways.
• Smoking Area Maintenance: empty bins, clean shelters and seating.
• Waste Management: position bins for collections and return after.
• Bin Store Management: keep bin stores clean and accessible.
• Pest Prevention: prevent pest ingress and report activity.
• External Building Checks: inspect exteriors and report defects.
• Health, Safety & Environmental: follow safety policies and use PPE.

We're looking for a External Waste Operative who will deliver excellent service standards, while meeting SLA agreements.

Rate of Pay: £13.45 Per Hour
Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

External Cleaning

• Carry out daily external litter picking across all designated site areas.
• Sweep and clean pavements, pathways, entrances, loading areas, and hard standings.
• Remove leaves, debris, weeds, and other waste materials from external areas.
• Maintain site perimeter areas to ensure a clean and professional appearance.
• Clean external fixtures including benches, bollards, signage, and surrounding areas as required.

Jet Washing

• Operate pressure washing equipment safely and effectively.
• Jet wash paved areas, walkways, entrances, smoking shelters, bin compounds, and other hard surfaces in accordance with schedules.
• Remove dirt, moss, algae, chewing gum, staining, and other contaminants from external surfaces.
• Ensure work areas are left safe and free from slip hazards following cleaning activities.

Smoking Area Maintenance

• Empty cigarette bins and ashtrays.
• Remove cigarette ends and associated litter from designated smoking areas.
• Clean shelters, seating, and surrounding surfaces.
• Ensure smoking areas remain clean, presentable, and compliant with site standards.

Waste Management

• Ensure all waste bins are positioned and accessible for scheduled waste collections.
• Move bins to designated collection points when required.
• Return bins to their allocated storage areas following collection.
• Report damaged or missing bins to management.
• Assist with waste segregation and recycling activities in line with site procedures.

Bin Store Management

• Maintain bin stores in a clean, tidy, and hygienic condition.
• Remove loose debris, spillages, and accumulated waste from bin compounds.
• Ensure bin store areas remain free from obstructions and trip hazards.
• Conduct regular checks to identify cleanliness, maintenance, or pest-related issues.

Pest Prevention

• Ensure all bins have rubber drain bungs correctly fitted and secured to prevent pest ingress.
• Report evidence of pest activity immediately to management.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards around all waste storage areas to minimise pest attraction.

External Building Checks

• Conduct routine inspections of building exteriors and surrounding grounds.
• Identify and report defects, hazards, vandalism, graffiti, fly tipping, damaged signage, lighting failures, trip hazards, and drainage issues.
• Complete inspection records and escalate issues through the appropriate reporting process.
• Support site safety and environmental compliance through proactive monitoring.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

• Comply with all Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
• Use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and machinery safely and in accordance with training.
• Always wear appropriate PPE.
• Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental concerns promptly.
• Ensure work activities do not create risks to staff, visitors, contractors, or members of the public.
