Job summary

Department of Health and Social Care is seeking a senior External Affairs lead on maternity leave cover. You will shape the external affairs strategy, advise Ministers and officials, and lead a team of professionals to strengthen relationships with NHS bodies, charities, and industry stakeholders.

You will provide senior counsel on reputational risks, work with communications colleagues, and horizon-scan for emerging issues to shape engagement plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership on external affairs, developing and delivering external affairs strategy aligned with communications objectives.
• Advise ministers and senior officials on partner engagement approaches and stakeholder positioning.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team of external affairs professionals in line with Government standards.
• Counsel on reputational risk around major announcements and public health issues.
• Collaborate with Government Communications colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach.
• Horizon-scan for external environment using insight to shape engagement strategy.
