Job summary

Chaucer Group in London is seeking a senior professional to lead Exposure Management operational processes and act as a bridge to the Chaucer Technology team. You will own the annual EM plan, ensure documentation, and coordinate with CTG to meet deadlines and regulatory requirements.

You will also drive SLAs, manage permissions, and contribute to risk reduction and data sharing initiatives while staying current with catastrophe modelling developments and market changes.

Qualifications

Job Profile Summary

This is a senior key role in the Chaucer Exposure Management (EM) teams responsible for overseeing EM operational processes and acting as the bridge between EM team and the Chaucer Technology (CTG) team. The role holder will own the annual plan of EM operational tasks, ensures that operational processes are documented and completed to agreed deadlines, working in tandem with CTG to ensure operational need to EM team are understood and met.

Job Description
Main Duties
  • Maintain a detailed annual plan of all EM specific operational tasks for the year and ensure that this understood across the wider EM team. All system upgrades, patching, housekeeping and other technology activity affecting EM should be scheduled around the key deliverables in this plan.
  • Work with all relevant teams to ensure all EM operational processes are completed as per agreed deadlines, with appropriate controls and checks in place that are understood and followed.
  • Ensure that all EM operational workflow processes, including those handled by the CTG team, are mapped out and documented, together with the inputs and outputs of key servers, systems and applications, and that this documentation is reviewed regularly for appropriateness and that these include business outcomes, acceptance criteria and benefits.
  • Work with the CTG team to set clear and appropriate SLAs for all operational tasks handled outside of the EM team, establishing these where they do not currently exist.
  • Ensure that permission grids / groups and housekeeping processes for all EM systems and applications (in-house and vendor) are appropriate, understood and maintained with clear ownership, and that vendor system requirements are understood by the CTG team.
  • Work with the CTG team to ensure that all technology requirements are in place for any external data sharing.
  • In conjunction with the EM senior leadership team, and working closely with the CTG team, ensure that development items for the in-house Pricing and Aggregation system or wider EM processes are prioritised in line with EM and wider business needs, including considerations for risk reduction and Regulatory requirements.
  • In conjunction with the EM senior leadership team, identify where additional reports are required and work with the Chaucer data team to ensure these are created.
  • Provide operational and technical support to the EM team and the wider Chaucer business, liaising with the CTG team and vendor support teams as required, and provide EM expertise to the CTG team.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in EM tooling, catastrophe science and the (re)insurance market, and recommend where processes could be made more efficient or new tooling implemented to improve EM workflows.
Other Responsibilities
  • From time to time take part in relevant projects within Exposure Management or throughout the wider business. Noting that Chaucer has a number of upcoming transformation projects.
  • Act as the operational lead for the Exposure Management team on any major platform or system transition, working with the Chaucer Technology team and relevant vendors to plan and coordinate data migration, parallel running and cutover activities, ensuring these are scheduled around key Exposure Management deliverables as per the annual plan.
  • Work with the Chaucer Technology team to ensure that all environments, test data and user access requirements are in place to support the testing of new or upgraded Exposure Management systems and applications, and coordinate the resolution of any issues identified through testing.
  • Ensure that all upstream and downstream dependencies on existing Exposure Management systems and applications are documented ahead of any system change, and that an agreed plan is in place for how these will be migrated, remediated or retired.
  • Keep up-to-date with new science and technological developments in the Catastrophe Management field, and also relevant news and developments within the (re)insurance market itself.
  • Participate in the Catastrophe Underwriting Group if required.
Skills and Competencies
  • Experience with Exposure Management applications and tooling
  • Experience within an Exposure Management or Catastrophe Modelling team
Technical Skills
  • Proficient using at least one model vendor catastrophe platform (Moody’s RMS preferred)
  • Proficient using at leas one aggregation model vendor platform (Verisk Sequel Impact preferred)
  • SQL programming skills, in particular with a focus on cat model output analysis and manipulation
  • Good knowledge of the build and financial output of catastrophe models
  • Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance financial terms
  • Experience using in house modelling and aggregations systems
  • Other programming languages
  • Experience in project management
  • Advanced excel
Education
  • Educated to degree level
  • Other relevant professional qualifications (or progress towards) such as CSCR, ACII, CRM, CCRA
