An established, proudly independent veterinary practice—serving its community for over 100 years—is seeking an experienced Mixed or Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join its exceptional team. This is a rare opportunity to become part of a supportive, forward‑thinking practice known for high‑quality, modern medicine and surgery at its 24‑hour hospital in the heart of the North East.

With excellent transport links, vibrant city centres, beautiful countryside, and the coast all close by, the location offers something for everyone.

About the Role

The practice is mixed with a strong small‑animal focus (80% small, 10% equine, 10% farm). The successful candidate will experience a wide variety of cases and clinical work, including theatre duties, inpatient care, imaging, lab work, and general consultations. Being hospital‑based ensures excellent exposure to a broad caseload and continued professional development.

This is a full‑time position, but part‑time hours can be negotiated (minimum two full days per week).

Rota
  • One night on call per week (with the support of another vet)
  • One full weekend on call in six
    • No night on call the following week
    • A Friday or Monday off to create a long weekend
  • One Saturday morning in three (one of which falls within the full weekend in six)
  • Bank holidays shared equally
  • No sole‑charge on‑call work

Applicants must have a minimum of two years’ experience and hold a full UK driving licence.

What the Practice Offers
  • Competitive salary up to £60,000 DOE
  • Salary package tailored to experience, including car, fuel card, and accommodation if required
  • Minimum 6 weeks’ paid annual leave, plus your birthday off
  • 6‑month review with salary increase upon successful completion of probation
  • 12‑month review with further salary uplift and bonus‑related earnings
  • Annual salary reviews thereafter
  • Profit‑sharing scheme after 1 year
  • RCVS and VDS fees fully covered
  • VISA sponsorship and funding
  • Generous CPD allowance, actively encouraged and supported
  • Regular in‑house CPD
  • Workplace pension scheme
  • BUPA healthcare cover
  • Discounted pet treatments after 6 months
  • Full sick pay after 1 year of employment

This role offers an excellent blend of clinical variety, professional support, and genuine work‑life balance—within a longstanding, well‑respected independent practice committed to nurturing its team.
