Role

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is looking for enthusiastic Band 6 MSK Physiotherapists to join our forward-thinking, patient-centred MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy Service. The posts will be primarily based at Totnes Community Hospital and Ashburton Health and Wellbeing Centre. Both sites are home to friendly and supportive physiotherapy teams. This role is ideally suited to a physiotherapist who thrives on managing a varied and often complex caseload and provides an excellent opportunity to develop diagnostic, clinical reasoning, and rehabilitation skills in a well-established MSK service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a high standard of physiotherapy service to people presenting at musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatient clinics based in physiotherapy departments across South Devon, including a rapid access booking system with up to 50% of patients self-referring.
  • Act as a source of expertise on the assessment and management of general MSK patients to patients, physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, assistants/technical instructors, other healthcare professionals, GPs, and consultants.
  • Educate and train physiotherapists, students, and other healthcare professionals in the management of general MSK conditions.
  • Support a range of rehabilitation options within the MSK service, including rehabilitation classes, acupuncture, steroid injections, and 1:1 treatment.
  • Maintain close MDT links to ensure integrated care.
  • Adapt communication methods for assessments/interactions (telephone, video, or face-to-face) and tailor communication accordingly.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, obtain valid formal consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Communicate sensitive information regarding diagnosis, prognosis, recovery, and lifestyle adjustments to patients and relatives, including potential changes in home circumstances or work/leisure activities.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in line with legal, departmental, and CSP standards; communicate assessment and treatment results to relevant disciplines via reports, letters, or verbal handovers.
  • Be responsible for accurate and timely data input into the IHCS data collection system for patient registration, contact information, and discharge details.
