Job summary

Horsefair Practice Group is recruiting a practice nurse to work across Horsefair practice and Sandy Lane Surgery. The role focuses on chronic disease clinics, immunisations, cervical screening, wound care and phlebotomy, with travel health and NHS Health Checks also included.

The successful candidate will join a team of nurses, ANPs, healthcare assistants and phlebotomists, using EMIS for patient records and contributing to audits and quality improvement efforts. NMC registration is essential.

Qualifications

• NMC registration is required.
• Experience in primary care and chronic disease management is highly desirable.
• Competency in immunisation protocols and phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Manage chronic disease clinics for diabetes, asthma, COPD and hypertension with care plans.
• Administer vaccines including childhood, flu, COVID-19 and shingles.
• Perform cervical smears and provide women’s health advice.
• Carry out phlebotomy and sample labelling.
• Support GPs with minor surgery and joint injections within the MDT.
• Keep accurate patient records on EMIS and participate in audits.
• Participate in infection control, waste disposal and stock checks.

Job description

Horsefair Practice Group, a GP training practice, is recruiting a practice nurse to work across its Horsefair practice and Sandy Lane Surgery. The post centres on chronic disease clinics, immunisations, cervical screening, wound care and phlebotomy, alongside travel health and NHS Health Checks. The role sits within a practice team of nurses, ANPs, healthcare assistants and phlebotomists, with a wider multidisciplinary team in place. Applicants need NMC registration as an adult nurse and primary care experience.

What the job involves

• Manage chronic disease clinics for diabetes, asthma, COPD and hypertension, including care plans
• Provide wound assessment and treatment, including dressings, suture and clip removal and compression therapy
• Administer childhood, seasonal flu, COVID-19 and shingles vaccinations to national schedules
• Perform cervical smears and offer women's health advice, including contraception and menopause
• Carry out phlebotomy, venepuncture and sample labelling
• Conduct travel health assessments and administer travel vaccines
• Deliver NHS Health Checks and lifestyle advice, with referrals to community services
• Assist GPs with minor surgery, joint injections and coil or implant fittings, working with the wider MDT
• Keep accurate, up-to-date patient records on EMIS
• Take part in audits, clinical governance, quality improvement and mandatory training
• Follow infection control rules, clinical waste and sharps disposal procedures
• Manage the cold chain, stock checks, crash trolley checks and controlled drug records

• Evidence of continued professional development
