Job summary

Frazer-Nash Consultancy is seeking an Experienced C&I and Functional Safety Consultant to lead projects across civil nuclear, defence, renewable energy and storage sectors. You will design and deliver safety-critical process control solutions, manage documentation, and mentor electrical engineers.

Hybrid working across multiple UK locations is available, with opportunities for progression. The role requires leading complex projects, strong EC&I knowledge, and experience with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong practical knowledge of process control systems and EC&I documents (SLDs, P&IDs, BCDs, schematics).
  • Experience leading safety-critical systems per IEC 61508/61511, ISO 13849, DO-178/DO-254.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mentoring and development of electrical engineers; technical leadership on projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead C&I projects from concept design through commissioning.
  • Deliver innovative safety-critical system designs and control solutions.
  • Produce and approve electrical reports, specifications, and detailed drawings.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets; report progress and risks to clients.
  • Interface with regulators and ensure compliance across projects.

Salary

£55,000 - £75,000 dependant on qualifications experience

Location

Bristol, Burton, Manchester and Glasgow with flexible hybrid working between office, client sites and home.

Our C&I Engineers undertake a range of projects across all sectors from civil nuclear sites and defence facilities to renewable energy and storage systems. The projects vary from small scoping and feasibility studies for modifications or upgrades to the design of complex process plants including nuclear power stations and COMAH sites.

Our C&I Engineers undertake a range of projects across all sectors from civil nuclear sites and defence facilities to renewable energy and storage systems. The projects vary from small scoping and feasibility studies for modifications or upgrades to the design of complex process plants including nuclear power stations and COMAH sites.

Our work often has a safety critical element and interfaces with other teams within Frazer-Nash to deliver a multi-disciplinary service offering, managing these interfaces and effective communication internally and to clients is an essential element of this role.

The candidate should have a strong technical project delivery background; with experience which should include several of the following:

  • Lead C&I projects from concept design through to commissioning.
  • Novel process control system design, including accompanying safety systems.
  • Delivery of innovation projects, taking new systems and technologies from concept through to acceptance.
  • Managing the production, verification and approval of; electrical reports, specifications, and detailed design drawings.
  • Managing a project team to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget.
  • Client facing to develop requirements and negotiating contracts / agreements, and progress reporting and risk management.

Essential Requirements
  • MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Or equivalent)
  • Strong practical knowledge of process control systems, along with a solid understanding of EC&I documents such as SLDs, P&IDs, BCDs, and schematics.
  • Strong experience leading the development of solutions for safety-critical systems aligned with one or more of the following standards: IEC 61508, IEC 61511 ISO 13849, DO-178, and DO-254.
  • Experience with working to the requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mentoring and development of electrical engineers.
  • Technical leadership on projects
Desirable Requirements

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • Experience of working within the Nuclear domain.
  • Experience of working with the following platforms:
  • Siemens TIA Portal
  • Pilz PAS4000
  • Rockwell Studio Logic
  • Formal functional safety certification/accreditation (such as TUV Functional Safety Professional)
  • Understand or awareness of Cyber Security standards such as IEC 62443. Familiarity with change control and defect tracking tools and processes.
  • Chartership
  • Interfacing with Regulators (ONR, DMR, CAA, MAA, Ofgem, ORR, etc)

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
