Job summary

Job description

We are looking for a skilled Exercise Practitioner with a track record of delivering excellent results to join our highly skilled Cystic Fibrosis Team.

You will be working alongside qualified Physiotherapists and a Dietitian, delivering a service to children and adults with a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis.

Key duties of the role include:

  • Patient activity assessment, health status, exercise testing, spirometry
  • Knowledge of nutritional status (work with dietician)
  • Re-assessment and outcome tools
Main duties of the job
  • To communicate appropriately and effectively at all levels of the patient and all those in their care. To be aware of barriers to understanding and identify different approaches as necessary
  • During risk analysis slash assessment explain outcome and address any patient concerns communicating sensitivity and complex information. This will include in completing subjective assessment at patient's initial assessment.
  • To complete an appropriate assessment of clinical needs, exercise, field exercise tests, CPET testing and rehabilitation needs in discussion with the appropriate therapists and to make decisions about the treatment and intervention required.
  • To implement exercise programmes without direct supervision and to set realistic and attainable treatment goals with patients
  • To be able to motivate & encourage patients to participate in their exercise programmes at home, on the ward & within the gym & outdoor environments
  • Joint clinic & home assessments with the physiotherapists and dietician.
  • To understand acute assessment of the medically unwell patient & be able to recognise signs that a medical/physio assessment is required
  • To provide appropriate and timely information to all relevant members of the healthcare team regarding patients therapeutic progress, supported by senior specialist staff to provide reports as appropriate.

Person Specification
Knowledge
  • 1 A level or equivalent
  • Certificate in personal training level 3/4 or relevant degree in exercise physiology/science OR BASRat British association of sport & rehabilitation and trainers
  • Health assessment Skills in exercise testing and prescription eg strength & conditioning/Pilates
  • Completion or commitment to undertake relevant skills with use of technology for exercise prescription and support for motivation for patients
  • Qualification or relevant experience in motivational psychological support for exercise/activity completion
  • Basic nutritional health knowledge
  • Member of CIMSPA register of exercise & fitness professionals
Experience
  • Relevant personal training experience in health promotion
  • Working in teams: gym or other relevant experience
  • 1:1 & group exercise prescription/training
