Job summary

Janus Henderson Investors seeks a senior AI governance leader to shape governance, risk, and policy for responsible AI adoption across the firm.

You will collaborate with data privacy, security, and technology teams to implement controls and oversight, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of AI regulation and governance frameworks, including EU AI Act, NIST RMF, and industry standards.
• Experience owning enterprise policy, governance and risk frameworks related to AI, data, or model risk.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical controls and operating models.
• Experience providing oversight within a regulated environment.
• Experience chairing governance forums and influencing senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Monitor regulatory landscape for AI rule developments and interpret implications across the business.
• Own interpretation of laws, standards and policies with policy teams to translate into guardrails and controls.
• Act as policy owner for AI governance in partnership with Head of AI and other stakeholders.
• Oversee AI risk appetite and risk framework including risk tiering for approvals.
• Establish monitoring capabilities with effective technology solutions.
• Ensure responsible AI and ethical standards are embedded across business use cases.
• Oversee AI risk management interactions with other risk policies and procedures.
• Chair the governance body within the AI program and lead related activities.

Your opportunity

This is a critical role aligned to Janus Henderson’s ambition to be a leader in the responsible adoption of AI across asset management. As the firm explores broader use of AI to enhance client service, investment processes, operational efficiency and decision-making, this role will ensure innovation is supported by clear governance, effective oversight and appropriate controls. The successful candidate will help Janus Henderson realise the benefits of AI while identifying, managing and mitigating the associated risks, supporting responsible growth for clients, the firm and its regulators.

Responsibilities

AI Regulation, Legislation and Industry Standards

• Monitors the regulatory and legislative landscape for rule-making developments. Interprets the regulatory implications of AI - e.g. EU AI Act and disseminates this effectively across the business
• Owns legislative, regulatory and other rule-based (standards) interpretation, working with the Governance Implementation team and other relevant teams to translate requirements into policies, guardrails, automated platform controls
• AI Policy owner for the firm, working in partnership with Head of AI, and other relevant stakeholders – Data Privacy, CISO, Technology,
• Owns AI Risk Appetite and Risk Framework including risk tiering applied to requests for approvals
• Responsible for establishing ethical AI and agentic or autonomous conduct standards
• Provides advice and governance implementation requirements arising from laws, regs, standards or policies.
• Responsible for ensuring AI Risk management interacts seamlessly with other Risk Management Policies and Procedures – e.g. Risk Taxonomy and RCSA, Risk Events
• Responsible for establishing monitoring capabilities supported by effective technology solutions
• Responsible overseeing and monitoring AI use and outcomes to ensure compliance with relevant AI legislation, regulation, internal standards and policies
• Responsible for overseeing risks arising from individual or collective use of AI, including:
• hallucinations
• access breaches
• inappropriate non-business use
• Responsible for chairing the "Approval Body" within the governance framework
• Carry out other duties as assigned

Must have skills

• Strong knowledge of AI regulation and governance frameworks, including the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF and relevant industry standards.
• Proven experience owning or operating enterprise policy, governance and risk frameworks, ideally relating to AI, technology, data or model risk.
• Strong understanding of AI risks, controls and monitoring practices, including risks arising from individual or collective use of AI.
• Experience establishing monitoring capabilities, adequately resourced and supported by effective technology solutions.
• Experience establishing ethical AI and agentic or autonomous conduct standards.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business controls and operating models.
• Experience providing oversight and challenge within a regulated environment.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior decision-making.
• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
• Experience leading others, chairing governance forums or driving decision-making across senior stakeholder groups.

Nice to have skills

• Experience with AI governance platforms, model inventories or risk workflow tools.
• Understanding of cloud, data and technology control environments relevant to AI deployment.
• Familiarity with third-party/vendor AI risk management, including due diligence and ongoing oversight.
• Knowledge of responsible AI principles, including explainability, transparency, fairness and human oversight.
• Experience designing or contributing to training, awareness or adoption materials for AI governance.

Position may be eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus award from the profit pool. The profit pool is funded based on Company profits. Individual bonuses are determined based on Company, department, team and individual performance.
