Job summary

University of Sheffield is seeking an Evaluation and Analysis Coordinator to join the Research Intelligence, Evaluation and Governance team. This hybrid, permanent role focuses on evaluating investments, developing impact measures and delivering tailored reports for internal and external stakeholders.

You will work with qualitative and quantitative data, maintain methodological excellence, and support colleagues across the team while contributing to high-level organisational goals.

Qualifications

  • Ability to analyse, manipulate and present data from a variety of quantitative datasets.
  • Experience of analysing qualitative data
  • Excellent written and inter-personal communication skills, with the ability to offer advice to users
  • Evidence both of appropriate attention to detail, but also the ability to elevate your thinking and approach to the bigger picture/objectives
  • Evidence that you are able to understand priorities at different levels in the organisation and to articulate RPI contribution appropriately
  • Evidence that you are able to support evaluation exercises and draw out key outcomes and impacts
  • Evidence of excellent organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities

  • Support the management and conduct evaluation of institutional investments end-to-end, engaging with key stakeholders effectively, attending events, and carving out key outcomes
  • Support the creation and adoption of impact and outcome measurement tools, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Support the production of high quality tailored reporting, including findings, recommendations and insights for a range of audiences, including internal decision-makers and external stakeholders
  • Maintain expertise in evaluation methodologies and best practice
  • Provide support to users in accessing and interpreting reports, including raising awareness of data limitations
  • Ensure qualitative data is robustly captured and interrogated
  • Support the work of other team members, by sourcing, cleansing and manipulating data and collaborating on the analysis of quantitative data and qualitative data
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post

Overview

RPI supports agreed University, Faculty and School priorities for research and innovation: income generation, research excellence, PGR experience, partnership development and knowledge exchange leading to income and/or impact and commercialisation of IP and student enterprise. Our focus is on delivering professional, value-add advice and support to our community of researchers and innovators. We are a well-connected team which understands the priorities of the organisation and our external stakeholders and customers and the external environment in which we operate. Team members collaborate, reflect, develop their skills and have a risk-appropriate mindset of continuous improvement to our processes, policy and approach.

This exciting role sits in the Research Intelligence, Evaluation and Governance team which supports the research and innovation leadership team, highlighting potential upcoming changes in the research and innovation environment; delivering regular analyses to reflect on our research and innovation performance using qualitative and quantitative information; and evaluating the effectiveness of our investments. The team also directly supports researchers to conduct their research ethically and with integrity, navigating regulatory requirements, and the team manages systems to support researchers in their research and innovation activities.

The primary focus of this role is to:

  • support the evaluation of R&I investments in order to demonstrate any impacts and outcomes
  • ensure findings from evaluations are consistently and robustly documented
  • support the team and wider RPI colleagues in evaluation exercises

Typical deliverables will include:

  • proactive engagement with R&I investments to identify potential outcomes and impacts and track these
  • a central repository of key evidence that is re(usable)
  • production of key messages/ evidence for a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, working with MARC and other relevant colleagues
