Responsibilities

• Review enquiries, specifications and tender documents and develop scopes of work for mechanical/HVAC projects.
• Produce detailed and accurate estimates and take-offs.
• Develop Design & Build opportunities from concept through to submission.
• Review drawings and technical information to identify risks and opportunities.
• Prepare tender submissions and commercial proposals; liaise with clients and suppliers.

Job description

Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Pre-Construction Manager / Mechanical Estimator to support a growing pipeline of opportunities across the business.

This is a key appointment for someone with a strong mechanical and HVAC background who can take an opportunity from the initial enquiry and turn it into a technically sound, commercially competitive and clearly scoped proposal.

You'll be comfortable working with projects from a blank sheet, understanding what the client is looking to achieve, developing the mechanical solution and establishing exactly what is required to deliver the works.

The Role

Working across the pre-construction and tender stages, you'll take ownership of opportunities before they are handed across to the project delivery team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing new enquiries, specifications and tender documentation
• Developing scopes of work for mechanical and HVAC projects
• Producing detailed and accurate estimates
• Working on Design & Build opportunities from an early concept stage
• Understanding client requirements and developing suitable technical solutions
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and other technical information
• Carrying out take-offs and building up project costs
• Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Identifying exclusions, qualifications, risks and opportunities
• Preparing tender submissions and commercial proposals
• Working closely with clients, suppliers and the internal project team
• Supporting the handover of secured projects into delivery

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines technical mechanical knowledge with strong estimating and commercial awareness.

You'll ideally have:

• A strong background within mechanical building services / HVAC
• Previous experience in estimating, pre-construction or a similar role
• Experience pricing mechanical projects
• A good understanding of Design & Build
• The technical ability to develop solutions rather than simply price from a completed design
• Experience producing scopes of work and tender submissions
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, labour and associated costs
• The ability to work independently and take ownership of opportunities
• Good communication and commercial skills

This could suit an established Pre-Construction Manager or Mechanical Estimator, or someone from a mechanical project/engineering background who has strong estimating experience and wants to move further into pre-construction.
