Job summary

Elevation Recruitment Group is helping a Sheffield-based civil engineering contractor recruit an experienced Estimator to join their team. You’ll play a central role in winning new work, engaging with clients and suppliers from enquiry to tender submission.

You’ll build precise cost estimates, interpret drawings and documents, source quotes, compile take-offs, spot risks and drive value engineering. You’ll act as a key contact throughout the tender process.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating within construction, civil engineering or a similar field.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specs.
• Strong commercial instincts with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Build precise cost estimates and tender submissions.
• Interpret drawings, specifications and project documents.
• Source and assess quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare take-offs and bills of quantities.

You’ll play a central role in winning new work, engaging with clients, suppliers and colleagues across the business at every stage from first enquiry through to final tender.

What you’ll be doing:

• Building precise cost estimates and compiling tender submissions
• Interpreting drawings, specifications and supporting project documents
• Sourcing and assessing quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
• Compiling take-offs and bills of quantities
• Spotting risks early and identifying opportunities for value engineering
• Acting as a key point of contact for clients and internal teams throughout the tender process
• Handing over successful bids smoothly to the delivery team once contracts are awarded

What we’re looking for:

• A background in estimating within construction, civil engineering or a similar field
• Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings and specs
• Sharp commercial instincts paired with a keen eye for detail
• Strong communication skills and a well‑organised approach
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Office
