Responsibilities
- Preparation of detailed and accurate pricing for tenders
- Supporting clients with pricing support for early contractor involvement projects
- Ensuring company governance procedures are followed at all times
- Working in coordination with the Bid Manager to ensure competitive pricing
- Agreeing methodologies and outputs for key activities with the planner, and where appropriate, with the Bid Manager / Design Manager
- Providing advice to the Bid Manager / Design Manager on the most cost‑effective design options
- Pricing alternative design solutions
- Proceduring competitive price using methodologies and outputs suitable to the scheme conditions and situations
- Advising the Bid Manager of the sufficiency of the client bill of quantity/activity schedule and arranging for full quantity take‑off or checking as required
- Preparing the price estimate for tenders and budget pricing, comprising:
- Developing local rates / build‑up rates for self‑delivered items
- Ensuring the Working Rule Agreement (and any other specific requirements such as London Living Wage) are included in labour rates
- Preparing scheme‑specific labour rate calculations where required
- Liaising with the planner to reconcile plant resource levels
- Creating comparison sheets for materials, considering unit rate (conversation factors), wastage, waiting times and part loads
- Liaising with procurement to determine appropriate supplier selections and to assess suitability and compliance of supplier quotations
- Liaising with procurement and the bid team to determine suitable subcontractor submissions and to manage compliance of subcontractor quotations
- Preparing comparison sheets for subcontractor details, additions and deletions from quoted rates
- Liaising with the planner, technical services and temporary works coordinator to agree the extent and nature of temporary works, and to agree costs with the temporary works coordinator
Qualifications & Experience
- Sound knowledge of civil engineering and construction techniques
- Knowledge of relevant procurement legislation
- Commercial awareness of different contract forms
- Sound knowledge of governance and procedural requirements for work winning
- Detailed knowledge of estimating software packages
Nice to Have
- Main Contractor / Tier 1 experience
