Job summary

BB Talent Resourcing Ltd Derby is seeking an experienced Estimator to own tenders and budgets, turning specifications and supplier quotations into accurate, competitive submissions that give projects the best possible commercial start.

You will visit sites, review tender enquiries and develop cost plans while balancing safety, quality and buildability. Hybrid working offers flexibility between the office and home.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing construction tenders and detailed cost estimates.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, specifications, and safety requirements.
• Ability to assess subcontractor, material and plant quotations and incorporate them into submissions.

Responsibilities

• Review tender enquiries, specifications and contract conditions, identifying issues before submission.
• Prepare accurate estimates, budgets and tender submissions in line with project requirements.
• Visit sites to assess access, utilities, local conditions and other factors influencing costs.
• Evaluate subcontractor quotations, material prices and plant rates for competitive cost plans.
• Develop activity rates, site overheads and resourced programmes with safety and quality allowances.
• Support project handovers and mentor junior team members as required.

Perm/Full-time - Construction

Getting the numbers right before work reaches site can make the difference between a strong project and a costly one. As an Estimator, you’ll take ownership of tenders and budgets, turning specifications, site information and supplier quotations into accurate, competitive submissions that give projects the best possible commercial start.

You’ll work closely with contracts, commercial teams, clients and subcontractors, balancing competitiveness with buildability, safety and quality. With hybrid working available, you’ll also have the flexibility to manage your workload between the office and home.

Your responsibilities as Estimator

• Review tender enquiries, specifications and contract conditions, identifying issues that need to be addressed before submission.
• Prepare accurate estimates, budgets and tender submissions in line with project requirements and internal procedures.
• Visit sites to assess access, utilities, local conditions and other factors that could influence construction costs.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor quotations, material prices and plant rates, incorporating these into competitive cost plans.
• Develop activity rates, site overhead assessments and resourced programmes while ensuring appropriate allowances for safety and quality.
• Support successful project handovers, maintain accurate records and provide guidance to junior team members where required.

What we’re looking for in an Estimator

• Experience preparing construction tenders, budgets and detailed cost estimates.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, specifications, contract conditions and site-related cost considerations.
• Ability to assess subcontractor, material and plant quotations and incorporate them accurately into tender submissions.
• Knowledge of construction health and safety requirements and quality management processes.
• Experience working collaboratively with clients, commercial teams, contracts teams, suppliers and subcontractors.

Working hours: 8:45am to 5:15pm, with a one-hour lunch break. Flexibility is available to start and finish earlier where agreed in advance.
