Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction estimator to play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates, developing tenders, and supporting the successful delivery of major civil engineering and construction projects. You'll be involved in every stage of the pre‑construction process—from initial enquiry to bid submission—contributing to business development, value engineering, and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates using first‑principles pricing.
• Develop tender programmes and coordinate submissions.
• Take off measurements and extract details from drawings and specifications.
• Attend pre‑bid review meetings with the Commercial Partner.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations.
• Support cost‑effective design solutions and risk mitigation.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and designers.
• Represent Stainforth Construction at internal, client, and site meetings.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Construction or a related field.
• Proven experience in an estimating role within the construction sector.
• Strong understanding of first‑principles pricing and SMM7 measurement methods.
• Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., ConQuest) and MS Office (including Project).
• Excellent analytical, numerical, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proactive, problem‑solving approach.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Exposure to a broad range of estimating projects and responsibilities.
