Job summary

Hill McGlynn Recruitment partners with an established construction contractor to appoint a Head of Estimating based from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. The role leads the estimating function from early cost planning to final tender submissions and handover.

You will set strategy, develop the team, ensure bids are compliant and profitable, and report to the Pre-Construction Director. A minimum of 10 years in estimating, including 3 in a senior role, is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years' construction estimating experience.
• At least 3 years in a senior/management role leading an estimating team.
• Proven track record of winning bids on medium to large-scale projects.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills for Estimators.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating function from early cost planning through to final tender and handover.
• Set and implement estimating strategy with Pre-Construction Director and senior team.
• Manage, mentor and develop the estimating team.
• Allocate tender opportunities and workloads across the department.
• Review tender documents and establish estimating and procurement strategies.
• Oversee preparation of detailed cost plans, estimates and tender submissions.
• Ensure bids are compliant, commercially viable and aligned with objectives.
• Lead or contribute to tender adjudication meetings and client negotiations.
