Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust in Wolverhampton is recruiting a Maintenance Worker Specialist (mechanical bias) at Band 5 on a permanent full-time contract, 37.5 hours per week. The role involves managing complex mechanical faults, building management controls, and supporting a modernising estates team.

You will work a shift rota including night shifts, weekends and bank holidays, with enhanced pay; prior apprenticeship and post-training experience in mechanical/electrical plant engineering

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical/electrical plant engineering with suitable apprenticeship or training.
  • Ability to fault-find and solve problems on complex buildings services equipment.
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilation and water systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Repair complex faults on building services systems and prioritise tasks to maximise performance.
  • Work as part of a shift rota and manage Permit to Work (PTW) documentation.
  • Potential progression to Appointed Person and involvement in building management controls.

Job overview

The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Maintenance Worker Specialist (mechanical bias. The role is suitable for a mechanical tradesperson from a plumbing, engineering or pipefitting background who has completed a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training programme with several years post training experience. Good fault finding and problem-solving skills are essential as is a willingness to undertake additional training when required. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of heating, ventilation systems and water services. Any previous steam systems experience would be advantageous.

This Shift pattern involves night shifts, Weekends and Bank Holidays.

Night shifts will be paid at time +30% of the standard rate.

Sunday/Bank Holiday shifts will be paid at time +60% of the standard rate.

A further 15% RRP payment is paid and reviewed annually (every April)

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be part of a modernising team being motivated, forward thinking, enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about delivering a first-class efficient service and will be part of a shift rota.

He/she will demonstrate highly developed physical and technical skills and a keen willingness to learn and develop new skills particularly associated with building management controls, steam and pressure systems etc. Successful applicants will be able to repair complex faults on a wide range of systems and facilitate such works having freedom to prioritise activity to maximise performance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

He/she will be a team player and will be capable of managing works acting as responsible person for the issue of Permit to Work (PTW) documentation etc. ensuring necessary procedural documentation is in place at all times. The successful candidate will also be expected to act as a Competent Person for various disciplines with the possibility of progressing to an Appointed Person in the future.
