ESG Analyst
The M&G plc Life Investment Office (LIO) is responsible for the management of M&G Life’s With-Profits Annuity and Unit-Linked funds with more than 150bn of funds under management. LIO works closely with the various asset management businesses within the M&G plc Group and other external managers to structure multi-asset portfolios aligned with the investment objectives of our clients. The ESG & Regulatory team devises ESG policy and investment strategy at the asset owner level and drives these into portfolio allocations, benchmarks and positions. This ESG Analyst role has a social focus and would be responsible for supporting the ESG Manager with a similar social focus.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out ESG investment analysis at both portfolio and individual company level to inform the level of adherence to ESG investment policy and the formulation of ESG investment strategy.
- Carrying out analysis of exposures of companies and portfolios to social risks including modern slavery in supply chains, activity in conflict affected and high risk areas seeking free prior and informed consent and compliance with labour rights.
- Supporting the formulation with key stakeholders of investment policy and strategy on various ESG issues and ensuring these are governed and agreed appropriately.
- Supporting alongside other teams in LIO the implementation of agreed ESG investment strategy in Asset Owner portfolios.
- Compiling and writing ESG related reports (both regulatory and financial) on behalf of the Asset Owner entity of M&G plc including NZAOA reporting, TCFD reporting, Stewardship Code and UN Principles of Responsible Investment.
- Compiling ESG‑related management information on Asset Owner portfolios in order to improve and inform ESG reporting.
- Assist and advise functions within the Asset Owner to integrate and implement ESG in their BAU activity.
Key Skills & Experience
- An interest in and some knowledge of ESG topics and investment considerations.
- Ability to research potentially unfamiliar topics and translate findings into investment policies and positions in the context of insurance investments.
- Comfort in working with and presenting to stakeholders across different functions and knowledge bases.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise and deliver work in a flexible manner and to deadlines.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Effective analytical skills.
- Effective problem solving skills.
- Good MS Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI).
Desirable
- Some knowledge of asset classes and their roles in multi‑asset and annuity portfolios.
- Some knowledge of social issues in sustainability and how they may impact investment strategy; examples such as human rights, modern slavery in supply chains, economic activity in conflict affected and high risk areas, and living wage compensation.
Qualifications
- IMC qualification desirable.
- CFA or ESG qualification an advantage.
