JOB TITLE: ERP Functional IT Support Lead

REF: Chester 5279020

Pay rate: £21.65 per hour PAYE

Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 2 to 3 months

Working Arrangement: Assume office based as no hybrid working given

Role and context

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking an ERP Functional IT Support Lead to lead on system change and development work as well as acting as an escalation point for system defects and service requests with the 3rd party support contract. The role focuses on developing and improving the Unit4 application and the post holder will lead on system change and development work as well as acting as an escalation point for system defects and service requests with the 3rd party support contract. The role is to lead an essential team responsible for ensuring the effective operational delivery of the council\'s ERP system as part of a Transactional Shared Service on behalf of two Councils.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead System Development, to identify and implement improvements for Unit4 and FP&A systems, prioritising requests and ensuring best practice use.
  • Manage System Roadmap, to oversee upgrades, system design, patching, and UAT. Gather user requirements and produce clear specification documents.
  • Project Leadership, to define project scope, follow set methodologies, and ensure developments drive efficiency and automation. Coordinate delivery and training.
  • Implementation & Testing, to lead testing, documentation, and deployment of Unit4 changes. Ensure updates are fit for purpose and properly supported.
  • System Maintenance, to support upgrades, patching, year-end processes, and UAT to maintain efficient and reliable systems.
  • Technical & Functional Support, to maintain reports, interfaces, hierarchies, roles, and security settings within Unit4, ensuring operational integrity.
  • User Support & Communication, to create development updates, guidance, and training materials. Maintain self-service documentation and contribute to support tools.
  • Service Management, to use ITIL framework to manage incidents and service requests. Troubleshoot complex system issues as second-line support.
  • Business Process Improvement, to provide system expertise to enhance business processes. Handle medium-complexity admin tasks and escalate major issues to third-party support.
What the client is looking for
  • Strong and proven experience working with a Unit4 system or other ERP system or similar role
  • Knowledge of Unit4 HR/Payroll/Finance modules or equivalent ERP system modules
  • Proven experience of analysing and documenting complex business processes
  • Unit4 ERP certification or equivalent qualification or experience in an ERP system
  • Detailed understanding of finance/HRP processes and procedures
  • Previous supervisory experience of small/medium teams is desirable
  • Experience working with 3rd party suppliers on delivery and change management
  • Experience of working within an ITIL framework is desirable
