We are looking for an Employee Relations (ER) Senior Manager with professional experience of complex ER casework and implementation of processes. This role will be part of the HR Operations Team who look after circa 1700 employees and partner colleagues and will report into the Head of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Responsibility for ensuring all HR related, employment contracts and agreements are up to date, working with the COE's to review periodically in line with any relevant law changes or business requirements.
- Own relationships with external employment lawyers and occupational health provider
- Lead all litigation including tribunal claims and ACAS conciliation
- Ensure the colleague handbook is up to date and work with the Ops team to make the relevant changes
- Track ER data and ensure ER dashboard is maintained and updated. Identify ER trends in order to propose and implement recommendations and future improvements.
- Build and deliver organisational capability in managing ER matters by educating managers and HR colleagues in ER process, practices, and legislation.
- Actively lead in HR projects with an ER lens
- Work with COE's on proposing and developing new ER processes and ensure continued process improvement.
- Review and input to HR Processes & policies for longevity and ease of use with an ER lens
- Constantly review and question our ways of working, always looking for efficiency and improvements to make sure we provide the best possible level of service
- Ad-hoc audit and compliance tasks related to ER
Key People Management Responsibilities
- Day to Day Manager responsibility for Advisory team (team of 3). Advising and coaching on solutions, follow up actions and preventative measures.
- Manage the day to day casework across the Advisory team, ensuring consistency and fairness in application.
- Provide clarity on strategy, team purpose & value and define the key areas of focus and direction.
- Support the development of your team through regular mentoring, coaching and feedback, 1:1s and on the job learning opportunities.
- Role model inclusion for your team to build trust and psychological safety.
- Ensure communication with your team is a core focus area including cascade of information from LT's and relevant business updates.
- Manage the on boarding, off boarding process and the entirety of the colleague lifecycle process for all team members.
- Manage all annual people management cycles such as goal setting, evaluation and salary reviews to a high quality and in a timely manner.
- To be accountable for ensuring your team are compliant with company processes and procedures; such as compliance, meeting mandatory business cyclical deadlines, and understanding the company values.
Qualifications & Experience
- You will have a passion for ER, with an understanding of workplace culture balanced with commercial acumen.
- You will have the confidence to liaise and provide expert advice on ER matters and employment practices to key team members across the business reducing the reliance on our external employment lawyers. The remit is UK Employment Law; however, some of our business areas have a European scope.
- You will have good knowledge and understanding of wider HR and COE model and the importance of cross team collaboration.
- You have the ability to build strong relationships within business and more importantly with the HR Advisory/BP team.
- You will be confident and proven in having coached and managed complex ER cases on multiple occasions—Performance Management (Informal and Formal), Absence Management, Redundancy Process, Grievance Process, Disciplinary Process, Mediation and Conflict Management, Mitigation of future ER Cases, Employment tribunals.
- Team management experience and ability to motivate and build a high performing team.
- To be a proactive, positive, and supportive member of the People team, actively contributing to team projects with a real pace and energy about their work.
- Have excellent customer service and attention to detail and always wants to excel.
- May lead a small team of professionals with limited control over budget spending or HR management such as recruiting or dismissal and supervises mentoring and coaching for team members.
- Typically implements short-term action plans rather than developing policy, process or strategy.
- Enhances or Improves methods or procedures and provides coaching to team members to ensure successful outcome.
- Has deep knowledge on one job area or broad knowledge on several job areas.
- Typically requires at least 8 years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years.
