The role As an Equipment Operative, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring emergency service equipment is maintained, serviced, and ready for operational use. This is a hands‑on workshop role where your attention to detail and commitment to quality will make a real difference, supporting frontline teams and contributing to public safety. It’s a role that offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to develop your skills in a dynamic environment.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

  • Service, clean, and maintain emergency service equipment such as search cameras, working‑at‑height gear, and fire and rescue tools.
  • Test high‑volume hoses, conduct inventory checks, and replenish stock.
  • Complete paperwork using the asset data management system.
  • Assist with stowage of vehicles, modules, and consumables, ensuring accurate asset tracking and safe storage.
  • Maintain tools and equipment to required standards, reporting faults promptly.

Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

This role is full time, 40 hours per week and is based on site at Bardon.

Typical working pattern:

  • Week 1: Monday‑Thursday 07:00am – 04:30pm, and Friday 07:00 – 03:30pm.
  • Week 2: Monday‑Thursday 07:00 – 04:30pm.

Essential experience of the Equipment Operative:

  • Workshop experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Good work ethic
  • Good team player
  • Labouring or maintenance background would be beneficial not essential

Qualifications for the Equipment Operative:

  • Must be able to drive
  • Forklift Truck Licence would be beneficial (approx. 10% of the job)

Security Clearance The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
