Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. in Caldicot, South Wales, is seeking an experienced Equipment/Facilities Engineer to maintain and install high-value manufacturing and facility equipment.

You will contribute to proactive maintenance and support ongoing production to meet schedules in a clean room environment. The role requires a minimum of 5 years in a similar role, strong electrical/mechanical understanding, ability to read schematics, and good communication.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Willingness to work across shift patterns in a semi-rural site.
  • PC literacy including Microsoft Office for reporting and work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, troubleshooting and installation of high value manufacturing and facility equipment.
  • Writing and scheduling preventative maintenance activities.
  • Identifying and controlling stock of critical spares to reduce costs.
  • Support Manufacturing to ensure production schedules and deliveries.
  • Continual improvement activities including OEE, safety and energy efficiency.
  • Mentoring and training technicians and apprentices.
  • Communicating progress with other functions and providing updates.
  • Adherence to Health & Safety protocols.

Job description

Reporting to the Equipment/ Facilities engineering Manager, you will be an integral part of the operations team based in Caldicot, South Wales (UK). You will be responsible for proactive and reactive maintenance on modern manufacturing and facility equipment. The role will be varied and will involve installing and supporting new and existing equipment. Microchip's Caldicot site is responsible for designing and delivering the next generation of advanced electronic module solutions for global technology markets. Our markets include medical applications, automotive, aerospace and renewable energy. The site is set in a semi-rural location with free parking and is easily accessed from both the M4 and M48 motorways.   • Maintenance, troubleshooting and installation of high value manufacturing and facility equipment.
  • Writing and scheduling preventative maintenance activities, carrying out PM activities as required.
  • Identifying and controlling stock of critical spares, to include sourcing best process to reduce costs.
  • Support Manufacturing to ensure that production schedules, plans and customer deliveries are consistently achieved.
  • Be active in continual improvement activities which would include OEE, safety, energy efficiency and equipment improvement
  • Assist in identifying training needs and training of others, including mentoring and working with technicians and apprentices.
  • Communicating with other company functions on engineering projects and providing progress updates.
  • Following all health and safety protocols
  • Take on other engineering duties as required and assigned.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised, applying judgement in resolving issues or making recommendations and helping to identify solutions to nonstandard tasks and queries.
  • Be able to interpret and understand mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Have effective communications skills acting as a source of technical expertise to make recommendations and share knowledge.
  • Be able to prioritise and organise work to deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Work in a clean room environment.
  • Ensure when carrying out any job function that it is done in accordance with all Health & Safety rules and regulations.
  • Be PC literate including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word with the ability to produce reports and working instructions using these tools.
  • Demonstrate a flexible attitude being prepared to work in any department on a variety of shift patterns where skills and business needs dictate.

Ideally have an HNC, HND in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or be a time served engineer with relevant academic qualifications.

Desirable but not essential
  • Experience working on Semiconductor or SMT manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with PLCs and or pumps or condensers.
