The position involves day-to-day equine duties, grooming, estate tasks, student supervision, and collaboration on knowledge-transfer activities.

Qualifications

• Formal equine qualification at Level 2 or above.
• Full, current driving licence (NI & ROI).
• At least two years' full-time equivalent experience in horse husbandry.
• Practical grooming experience with horses.
• Experience using a broad range of horse tack in an equine-yard environment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day equine duties across breeding, equitation and racing enterprises.
• Support operation of campus education and residential facilities.
• Groom horses and use a broad range of tack and equipment.
• Record electronic and practical information relating to the equine enterprises.
• Supervise students during practical duties and observe their performance.
• Comply with CAFRE Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Assist with general estate and farm duties as required.
• Drive departmental vehicles.
• Support CAFRE knowledge-transfer activities, events and other duties on/off campus.

Pay Rate: £13.69 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary Agency Assignment
Start Date: 5 October 2026
Expected End Date: 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension

JDR Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Equine Worker to support the equine enterprises and wider campus facilities at CAFRE Enniskillen Campus.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a recognised equine qualification and substantial practical horse-husbandry experience to work within a professional education and training environment.

The Role

Key duties will include:

• Carrying out day-to-day equine duties across the breeding, equitation and racing enterprises.
• Supporting the operation of the campus's education and residential facilities.
• Grooming horses and using a broad range of horse tack and equipment.
• Recording electronic and practical information relating to the equine enterprises.
• Supervising students while they undertake practical duties.
• Observing and recording student performance.
• Complying with all CAFRE Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Assisting with general estate and farm duties as required.
• Driving departmental vehicles.
• Supporting CAFRE knowledge-transfer activities, events and other duties both on and off campus.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• A formal equine qualification at Level 2 or above, such as an NVQ Level 2, British Horse Society Stage 2, Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care or an equivalent qualification.
• A full, current driving licence permitting the holder to drive in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Applicants must have:

• At least two years' full-time equivalent experience in horse husbandry.
• Practical experience of grooming horses.
• Experience using a broad range of horse tack in an equine-yard environment.
• Your CV must clearly demonstrate how you meet the required qualification and experience criteria.

Desirable Qualifications

It would be advantageous to have:

• A City & Guilds or NPTC Certificate of Competence in Livestock Transportation for Short Journeys.

Working Pattern

Core working hours are:

• Monday to Thursday: 9.00am-5.00pm
• Friday: 8.30am-4.00pm
• Breaks: An average of 30 minutes per day

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate must also be available to work outside normal hours when required. This may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
