Job description
Field Services Division Overview

The Field Services Division (FS) delivers nationally coordinated epidemiological, microbiological and infectious disease surveillance and outbreak investigations with strong data science capacity. FS provides an effector arm for UKHSA, supporting evidence translation into practice, strengthening surveillance through NHS and partner links, and coordinating the UKHSA applied epidemiology training function.

Responsibilities
  • Support outbreak and epidemiological investigations by collecting, extracting and analysing data.
  • Maintain, update and manage outbreak, incident and surveillance databases.
  • Produce routine surveillance and outbreak reports using descriptive and trend analyses.
  • Conduct basic statistical tests and map data using common statistical, database and mapping software.
  • Adapt and develop automated routines for surveillance and outbreak support.
  • Comply with information governance guidance, including secure storage and transfer of PII.
  • Assist audit through data extraction and basic analysis.
  • Manage own workload, set objectives and review progress.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external partners across public health, NHS and academic sectors.
Qualifications
  • Experience in data maintenance, extraction and basic descriptive and trend analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common statistical/database/mapping software.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and experience working in an NHS or public health environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organisation and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to produce high‑quality work under pressure and in multidisciplinary teams.
