The employer’s selection process assesses the listed qualifications, knowledge, experience, skills and abilities through an application sift, interview and a technical assessment involving R-based analysis.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop surveillance systems and databases with relevant scientific, clinical, laboratory and health-protection colleagues.
- Create database queries and validation checks that remove duplicate records and improve data quality and completeness.
- Undertake specialist analysis of quantitative datasets and evaluate research evidence from multiple sources to inform decisions.
- Prepare annual surveillance reports, routine outputs and responses to ad hoc information requests.
- Liaise with stakeholders, clinicians, laboratories and health-protection teams on surveillance data, cases and outbreaks.
- Maintain disease-specific website pages and dashboards, ensuring that content is validated and follows relevant guidelines.
- Help prepare datasets for international organisations and contribute to reports and scientific papers when required.
- Present surveillance findings at internal, local and national meetings and support related infectious-disease surveillance projects.
Qualifications
- A degree-level qualification in a relevant science subject, such as biomedical sciences, mathematics or epidemiology, or significant equivalent specialist experience.
- A postgraduate MSc degree in Epidemiology that is completed or near completion.
- Experience of scientific research, particularly in public health or epidemiology.
- Experience managing, analysing and reporting epidemiological data with R, SQL and Microsoft Access.
- Ability to work independently to deadlines while contributing effectively as a team member.

- Translate complex epidemiological and statistical information into clear advice for professional audiences.
- Use R, SQL and Microsoft Access to investigate data, create structured queries and support analytical reporting.
- Apply careful validation methods to improve completeness, accuracy and usability within surveillance data systems.
