Job summary

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) is recruiting Environmental Enforcement Officers to patrol town centres and residential streets, observing offences and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices. You will educate the public on environmental responsibilities and document evidence using standard systems.

The role is outdoors for most shifts, requires strong communication and resilience, and supports a wider enforcement team. Training, full uniform and progression opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and a confident, professional manner.
• Resilience and the ability to handle challenging conversations calmly.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Basic IT skills for report writing.

Responsibilities

• Starting your day by heading out on foot patrol across town centres, high-footfall areas and residential streets.
• Observing public behaviour and identifying offences such as littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping.

Pay rate: £13.45 per hour

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (including occasional weekends)

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) works in partnership with Local Authorities across the UK to tackle environmental crime, including littering, fly-tipping, dog fouling and duty of care offences. Using industry expertise, trained officers and modern technology, we deliver visible, fair and effective enforcement that helps keep boroughs clean and safe.

A Day in the Life

A typical shift will involve:

• Starting your day by heading out on foot patrol across busy town centres, high-footfall areas and residential streets
• Observing public behaviour and identifying offences such as littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping
• Approaching offenders confidently and professionally to explain the offence and issue Fixed Penalty Notices
• Educating members of the public on their environmental responsibilities
• Accurately recording evidence, statements and reports using provided systems
• Working independently while remaining supported by a wider enforcement team and management

You’ll be outdoors for most of your shift and regularly engaging with the public, so confidence, resilience and professionalism are key.

• Ability to work independently and follow procedures
• A driving licence is preferred but not essential
