Arcadis is seeking a Principal/Associate Technical Director to lead environmental and consenting work on Design & Build projects in the UK. You will steer multi-disciplinary teams across infrastructure, energy, and development schemes, ensuring compliance, quality and timely delivery.

You will develop opportunities with clients, oversee risk management, and champion sustainability through design, with Chartered status or progression toward it.

Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental and consenting processes, including EIA practices and case law.
  • Strong experience with contractors and influencing sustainability through design.
  • Experience across a range of project types.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects.
  • Experience negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
  • Chartered status or working towards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on coordinating and delivering environmental work by multi-disciplinary teams for D&B projects.
  • Drive business development; create opportunities and deliver projects to grow the D&B portfolio.

Role description

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in winning and delivering work in the Design and Build Sector. As part of our Environmental team, you’ll help improve quality of life. With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise. And in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations.

Role accountabilities

You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK / worldwide.

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning / environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes - with a strong understanding of the D&B process.
  • Strong business development, create project opportunities and lead delivery of projects to build our portfolio in the D&B Sector – but also working closely with the upstream Environmental and Planning upstream work.
  • Raise awareness of our services, winning new opportunities and building new contacts.
  • Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety
  • Work closely with existing and established Arcadis colleagues across our Global Business Arcadis
Qualifications & Experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of the environmental and consenting process, from EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms
  • Strong experience of working with Contractors and influencing sustainability through design
  • Experience across a range of project types
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards
  • A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work
